It sounded like a bad rear wheel bearing. A rythmic pulsing from the rear that was dependant on speed. (IE: The faster you went, the faster the pulsation) I'm not talking about a vibration, it was just an audible sound.

Haha, yeah, can't say I've been much nicer to mine and it hasn't broken yet (cross fingers?). It doesn't look like a stress fracture (as I've seen in other diffs that my brother has destroyed), generally a stress fracture tends to branch out too.

I have a good vLSD. It has no stubshafts. If you dont want your vLSD anymore, I could use your stubshafts, otherwise, I have a vLSD for sale for you

No, it uses a N/A rearend with 4.3 gearing. Thats why when people say "the turbo without the turbo", they are just confusing people.

Would you describe it as a whirring sound that is speed and load dependent? Could you hear the change of pitch when you were on or off throttle?

Not really load dependant, the noise was always there. Speed determined the frequency. The pitch of the sound would never change. Just a "rrrr....rrrr....rrrr....rrrr....rrrr...." when the car was moving. The faster I went, the faster the "rrrr....rrrr...." went.

If you have a vibration/sound that is load dependant, I would suspect the driveshaft.

That's a very cool break!

I scrambled the spyder gears in an open N/A rear end in highschool. Hit a curb sideways going about 35mph in the snow. Thing started to sound like a jet engine in the rear end.

Opened the drain plug, and whala! JACK FACTORY!!!!

Needless to say it was towed to a shop at that point.

Coming from off-roading i get my kicks seeing catastrophic drivetrain failure.
