Oh **** !!!!!!

I am readying for a TII swap into my 87 NA. I bought a 87 TII which I was told came with a J-Spec engine (not running) and the original motor (also not running)). I pulled the diff, half-shafts, drive shaft, trans, and finally the engine. I believe I have a S5 motor in my car and not a S4. I have purchased a throw out bearing, all new oil metering lines, a trans seal kit, all new air bleeds, etc.....that willnot fit a S5.

The ECU is a 332. Will a S5 motor fit in a S4.

How can I indentify the engine to make sure what it is. I also noted earlier today that the injectors that I sent to have blueprited and balance were different than the ones I pulled out today. The have a purplish connector.

Oh ****!!!!

An N332 is an S4 Turbo ECU. According to http://www.rotaryresurrection.com (in the tech section) your injectors that were purple were most likely 88 Turbo high impedance injectors, versus the 87 low impedance injectors. You may need to do some slight rewiring on your harness there. Check that page, and search here in this site for a LOT more useful info.

It sounds as though you have S4 parts all the way around, though. 87's were ALL s4. An S5 engine will fit in an S4 body, but you'll need to swap out virtually everything, possibly including the dash wiring, to make it work. Its not worth trying. Many people like the S4 turbo setup better (other than the wastegate) than the S5 anyway, so you aren't missing a whole lot according to some.

A little more info on what was on your original engine versus what's on the new one would be useful though.

Do a little searching and you'll find a lot more knowledge on the differences between S4/S5 than I can highlight for you here. One quick way to check, though, is to look at the turbo wastegate lever. If its straight, its an S4 turbo and most likely an S4 engine. If its got a crook in it its an S5. But do a search. Believe me, you'll be glad you did.

It is a S5

Thanks Digital Synthesis

I looked at the wastegate lever on both turbos. The extra motor turbo is straight (S4) and the motor I pulled has a bent lever (S5).

Now I know for sure. The LIM are also different. The S5 motor LIM has a inlet (hole) on the side closest to the firewall.

Thanks
