Ok, also, since I still have like... all of these sitting here... first person to PM me that wants one gets free shipping. I don't mean "I want one when I get paid in a year" I mean someone who wants to buy it, and wants it shipped out that same day.

Deal?

sounds good... im going to deposit my check right now... also, I dont need the AFM adapter or cone filter or any of the pre-turbo stuff, so if you really want to ship it, thats fine, but you may as well hold on to it. now... could i replace that stuff with a battery for it for the same price? (wishful thinking i know)

Ok, being the first to order the kit, i guess im the first to review it too

First off, everything looks top quality... the welds, the IC, the bracket etc. I cant comment on the change in intake temperatures or the lag yet, as I still have a few things left to do to the car before its drivable again. However, when installing it I came across a few issues, most small and easily correctable, but one large one. The small ones first:

The directions: They are well written and pretty clear, but the pictures could be clearer. Color would help, as would a circle around the bolt, nut, or item of interest. The included nuts and bolts could be more clearly referenced as well. I didnt have a problem with them, but based on the description of the directions in the first post, I was expecting IKEA-type directions, leaving nothing to chance.

The Fasteners & Misc. stuff: Good choice on the clamps, I just wish that the right sizes were included. There are enough of the 2.25" ones, but none that would fit over the 2.5" end tank connections on the IC itself. Also, even though the directions say that nuts for the bolts holding the upper bracket on to the car are included, they arent. What also would be nice would be a roll of the generic weather stripping; the foam type that is sticky on one side and comes in a big roll to use to protect the tubes and keep them from vibrating/making noise at the point where they pass through the holes you cut below the headlights. None of these are a big issue in and of themselves, but if i were taking a day to do this, and the 7 is my only car, I wouldnt want to have to get it mostly together to drive out to the hardware store and pick up some clamps, nuts etc in the middle of installing it.

Now for the big thing:

The bumper/crash support. There is no way that this could be kept on the car and still be of any use with this kit. The end tanks and tubing of the IC pass directly through where the fiberglass support's brackets would be, and utilize 2 of their mounting holes for the IC upper bracket.

Even if i were to cut the brackets to allow the tubing to pass through, and mounted the IC's upper bracket so as not to interfere with the support bracket, and trimmed the fiberglass support to fit, it would not be structural at all. The metal that would be left to hold up the fiberglass support would be way too weak to do much of anything in the event of an accident, and would immediately buckle if you got hit/hit something. For many people this wouldnt be a problem, but for me, if I had known what would be left of the support, I probably would have built my own kit around it.

I dont want to demean or cheapen the death of guitarjunkie28, but I've certainly learned something from him post-mortum. Without the bumper support to properly direct the energy of an impact into the strong points of the frame designed to handle it, the front of the car will basically crumple while not absorbing nearly as much energy, transmitting it to the passenger cell.

However, as morbid as this is, all in all its not a bad kit, just misadvertised in a way. For people who wouldnt mind the missing bumper support, it fits well and is of good quality, and im sure a couple nuts and clamps could be thrown in subsequent orders. I didnt expect mine to be perfect, being the first one sold.

I have a custom FMIC kit that I bought off of a forum member that fits perfectly behind the bumper/crash support. I did not have to modify that part of the car at all to install the kit.

If anyone is interested I can take pictures of it installed without the bumper on, then pull it off the car and take a bunch of pics and measurements and whatnot.

it also fits around the power steering, so if you want to keep that, you can.

if anybody is interested *ahem*corksport*ahem* just shoot me a PM and I will do anything I can to help

Sublime I pmed you.

Sorry corksport but I decided to make my own kit and save a couple hundred bucks. It'll be fun, just like building the rest on my rx7.

Noticed a couple more things tonight as I finished up the install... that the drivers side tube coming off the IC core hits the front drivers side turn signal (but not by much, it pushes it up by approx 1/8", and that i must be getting the specs for my battery from a much different place, bc the 26R (21R is recommended, 26R is 3/8" longer and a little shorter) is a good 2 inches too short for the tray. Also, the tie-downs in the battery tray shouldnt be holes in the side supports, because they leave no room for the hook to protrude through and really grab on.

These are just smaller items of note, as are most of the other ones, and definately not deal-breakers... i guess you could say that Im using this thread to provide more feedback about the CS kit in hopes of improving the product.

yea, that was mostly the point, there were a few missing bits and pieces that a shop would easily have hanging around, but a back-yard mechanic may not, and if its that same guy's only car, he cant exactly run out to the hardware store to get stuff. The battery tray size isnt really a problem either, because the battery I got for it (26R, since nowhere I went had the recommended 21R) still fit on the tray, there was just a lot of room for it to slide around, especially when the holes for the tie-downs are done the way they are. To remedy this I plan on just passing some bolts through the holes and tightening them to the tray with a nut, then hooking the tie-downs around these bolts. This should intrude in towards the battery less than the hooks themselves, and hopefully wont bend or fatigue the aluminum tray.

The only thing i was really upset about was the inability to keep the bumper support, or if you were to cut up the brackets that hold the support, they wouldnt be structural enough to help at all.

I do have to say, it does keep the air pretty cool. I was just on stock boost for the moment (waiting on a boost controller), but the temps barely moved ambient. The recorded temperatures slowly crept up, but thats because of heat-soak of the temperature sensor, not the IC setup. I should be cranking up the boost pretty soon, im just waiting to get my WBO2 back first

I might be on the market for a fmic soon for both t2's thanks for the reviews. Wish though they made the piping eliminate the ps instead of the ac. Dont have ac right now but summer around here does get hot. And also if the bumper mounts did not have to be hacked. But dont you have to hack the mounts for the greddy and hks kits the new ones anyway and i thought you could not use the ac with those either?
