Oh No. Engine cranking over funny

Got into the RX this morning and when it first started cranking it sounded normal. THEN it started cranking over real quick, kind of like when a normal 4-cycle motor spins over when a timing belt is broken.
It won't start, only cranks over real quick. I'm also getting some fuel smell. Is this something that ATF trick in the spark-plug hole will fix?
As far as I know these things don't have timing belts so I'm at your mercy, guys.
Let me know what I'm looking at here.
Thanks.

Lou.

Ouch. welp... you could have bent valves... haha... sorry just trying to bring some humour to your situation

Looks like your motor bit the bullet. do a compression test just to be sure, and try the atf trick for the hell of it

GOOD LUCK!

My ears compression test says absolutely zero.
That's what it sounds like, anyway.

Do a search for the un-flood procedure. These things flood easily and won't un-flood themselves.

Agreed.
I've had that 'fast cranking' before. It also makes a high pitched whine sound. Very badly flooded.

yep, me too...when we tossed in the RB aluminum flywheel last year we started the car in the dead of cold and shut it down after literally 2 seconds (this motor never floods, maybe 3 times times max over the past 4 years). It flooded real bad but the fast cranking I couldn't figure out. After yanking the tranny again and making sure everything was kosher I just crimped the fuel line and she fired right up then died. At that point I changed the oil...first time after the fresh oil she fired on her 3rd crank as usual

For the guys that said it's flooded, you're right.
I went thru the simple procedure and it didn't work. Then I went thru the complex one and all is well.

I appreciate the help, guys.

The easiest way that ALWAYS works is crimping the fuel "in" line. Just take a simple vice grip and wrap the teeth with electrical tape so they don't pierce the line. Wih the vice on crank it, the car will start after a few seconds then stall. Remove the vice and go for a drive
