odds and ends..
i have an 88T2
my tach goes wild from time to time...it starts flippin out in lower RPMs...what could contribute to this problem...? and my fuel guage doesnt work anymore where can i replace/repair it.....lastly my shifter feels soooo freaking flimsy, i removed the console and looked under the boot and it seems as if i can just pull the freakin' shifter outta the socket..! i plan on getting a mazda trix short shifter...to replace this one in hopes of getting a better feel.....
well if u have any suggestions..please let me know id like my car actin a little cleaner than this...cuz other than that...she runs strong as hell.....i just am tired of cutting it close trying to do math as i drive to get rough estimates of my current fuel load...(i ran out a few days ago...and i have a 2 gallon tank holding some 93 just in case.......
thanks for your time everyone!

You might try fiddling with the electrical connectors for the trailing coil to see how that affects your tach problem. Especially if your reading appears to jump around between either 0 RPMs (or possibly half the actual RPMs) and the correct reading.
New bushings may help the shifter problem. See:

The fuel guage could be a number of things. For me, the easiest thing to get to is the float attached to the fuel pump in the tank. You could start there, and check your circuits back to the guage.

I don't think I can help you much here, other than to tell you to just check your wiring (especially connections). Also, I often read here about poor factory solder joints on the instrument cluster, but have no personal experience with this.
There's a lot of electrical expertise on this site. Hopefully one of those guys will see your post and advise you about the fuel guage. If you continue to have problems, maybe should post again, identifying that specific problem in the title.
The body electrical section of the factory manual offers some trouble shooting help for the guages. You can find it at this site: http://208.62.166.66:82/guest/shop_manuals/ . The files seem pretty big to me--if they're too big for you to download, I'm sure it's available at other sites.
Good luck!
