Oddball findings when pulling motor apart...

I just started pulling my motor apart and found 2 strange things. 1 is evidence of coolant pooling in the throttlebody it was comming fron rhe side where the coolant hoses attach. 2 I found evidence of a massive leak under the water pump. now here is what was happening...

When this problem started I obviously was blowing coolant out the tailpipe not only that but the car ran on one rotor until the rotor in question unfowled. I put in some stop leak in the cooling system and the coolant blowing out the tail problem went away, but 5then the coolant buzzer kept going off and the temp gauge kept going haywire floating from near overheat to normal. I parked the car afterword.

Is this still evidence of a cooling seal going out or could a failure in the throttle body heating mechinisim cause this false diagnososis? I;m going to check to see if the rotor is compromised before getting the rest of the engine apart.

There shouldn't be any way for an external coolant leak (around the throttle body or otherwise) to get inside the intake - it's (theoretically) sealed.

You found coolant *in* the throttle body?

Hmm, I wonder if the stop leak stuff clogged up the little passageways in the thermowax/BAC run, or the rad passages, causing the higher temps...

Reagrdless, you're not going to know much internally until she comes apart...

Does the BAC show any evidence of leakage into the TB?

There is no way the coolant can get into the BAC. The coolant being routed to the BAC is just a pipe bolted to the BAC. You can unbolt that pipe if you want.

But that is weird having coolant in the TB.

I also found a buttload of oil in the intake... This motor's comming apart. Luckilly I still have my upper intake from my old motor so I'll be using all that stuff when I put her back together. I may have to use elements from my old motor to get this car running. really on a tight budget here. At least that motor never saw any bit of overheating. just lots of mileage.

Yeah, the purge valve lines usually have a bit of oil in 'em up by the TB nipples, and into the internals, but usually not what I'd call a "buttload".
