Odd trans sound

Is it normal for a transmission (5 speed) to make kind of a rubbing noise. I don't want to say grinding its more of a rubbing noise coming from the trans when its in gear and I'm accelerating. And it does this when its cold outside. Sounds dumb but I've never heard a trans do this when its cold. Also since the weather got colder and the noise started suddenly my 2nd gear syncro isn't bad anymore? My fluid levels are fine and it started once the weather got cold. I haven't had the oppurtunity to really warm the car up due to a bad water pump. Should I be worried?

Without hearing the noise is hard to tell since there are three bearings that are the cause of most noise in the tranny. But what weight oil are you running? Mazda recommed 75-90 for colder weather.
