Odd reving experience yesterday

car is a 86 n/a 5spd
half emisions removal (acvc, air pump, cold start bottle removed)
racing beat true dual exhaust
no air box cone filter added

Anyways this is the first time this has happened..

I got in my car yesterday started the car and let it warm up for a minuet or two at about 2k I noticed that I was very close to empty on the gas gauge so I figured first stop gas station...

so before I pulled out I revved the car and when it hit 3k it just fell on its face like if I hit a rev limiter..

I did it a few more times same thing.. if I kept the pedal to the floor it would just bog down and thats that.. never going above 3k

I figured maybe it was a gas problem so I pulled out onto the road and short shifted into 2nd. got to the stop sign at the end of the street held the gas at about 2k as I merged into traffic I hit the gas short shifted, 2nd gear hit the gas and noticed I was above 3k.... I went into 3rd above 3k no more problem... went to the next corner got gas and again no more problems and I rove it for another hour or more even up to 100mph and no problems.

was this maybe just due to very low gas or maybe a problem I need to watch out for...

the temp yesterday was roughly 30 degrese but I have had the car in the same setup in cooler temps..

anyways any quick info would be great.... I have not started the car yet today to see if it will do this again or not...

prior to starting yesterday it had been only a couple days since the last time I drove it

the same thing just happend to me but i still have this problem. i brought it home and its been parked for the past week. i cant figure it out. i put more gas in it only 2 gallons tho because thats all i had im gonna finaly get to work on it tomarro. i was looking around on line for the same kinda problems im having and i really couldnt find to much about it. but i have at least one blown motor mount and i had ordered them befor this problem occured and i was thinking maybe it was a ground problem. but now that i think about it there could have been some trash floting in my gas tank and when it got low maybe it got sucked up restricting my flow so it would run really shitty because it dosnt have any gas geting to it. i will let you know exsactly what happens when i get a chance to fill it up after work. let me know if it happens again.
thanks
marshall

not sure if this will help.. check all of your lines and O rings for leaks. check the fuel rail vac line. how old are the fuel filters? did you premix too much? could be bad gas too.

I'm pretty sure you were just low on gas because I've done the same thing in my RX-7 when I was low on gas too. The FC is usually none too reliable on it's gas gauge.

The stock FC gas gauge has always been known for being unaccurate. I know on mine I can drive 110 miles on the gas from 1/2 tank to 1/4 tank, but after I get passed the 1/4 mark, the gas gauge starts dropping faster. The odd thing is, once I get towards E, it seems like the gas lasts longer and that the gauge is reading wrong. I think I've still gone 40 miles when the needle was only slightly above E. Not sure how reliable that light is because usually mine kinda blinks on and off at different times when I'm low on fuel. *shrug*

mine doesnt go all the way to full. it stops at about 4mm from it. the low fuel is supposed to come on when you have like 2-3 gallons left. mine comes on occasionaly but ive learned not to rely on it. or to rely on how many miles i get to a tank etc bc it is allways changing.

If I remember right, the problem with it not reading accurately has something to do with the float. The shitty thing is the float is part of the fuel pump IIRC, and the part that goes bad isn't exactly replaceable without replacing the whole unit.

yeah I have had no more problems so I think it was just to low..

not premixing to much only 1/2 oz per 1 gallon of gas

no leaks so it was deffinatly a low fuel issue

thx guys!

Seconded. Nothing to worry about. I've been driving my 3C for almost 17 years and it's happened quite a few times.
