BC Odd Issue - Power Cuts Off

This used to happy rarely, and I thought it was maybe a bad ground to the fuel pump cutting fuel delivery occasionally. I cleaned the ground, and everything seemed fine for quite a while, but I guess it was a coincidence. Eventually, when I was leaving work, it started happening again.

So here's the run down, this has happened a few times but it was generally rare. Sometimes, the engine just shuts off. No engine noise, lights n everything are still on but no power for nada. Used to be it'd pass after maybe 20 seconds, and you wouldn't hear of it again all day, or maybe for a week, or two even.

Cleaned the ground and drove it fine for a while, then when leaving work it was back, and even worse. Started my car, and as soon as you step on the gas it dies. Or starts to, let off the gas and it idles fine. Even idles on startup, up to 3000 without issue, but won't go above 1200 otherwise. Step on the gas and down it goes. Eventually it passed enough for me to drive the bloody thing home, but not before scaring the ten hells out of me.

After that I parked it for a while, started taking the bus to work and such. I tried to take it into the shop today, get them to use a scan tool on it, but they refused to touch my car. I'd like to smack those guys, I rather doubt my fuel delivery system is much, or any, different than any other vehicle. In any event, before I took it down there, I started it up and it was doing the same thing that it was at work, though it sounded like it was creeping into the idle now. Still idled up, but didn't sound happy about it.

Having a mild suspicion, something in me says, "Deflood the bitch." So it did, deflooded it. Started up, was a little iffy but two taps of the gas later and it sounded as healthy as it ever has. Drove it around a bit without issues.

So yeah, if anyone has any idea's, I'd be glad to hear them. I ain't getting rid of my RX7 no matter how bitchy she gets, and to be honest this is the first time she's really scared me.

A friend of my suspect something is wrong with my fuel pressure regulator. I was thinking maybe my injectors are just allowing too much flow, and leaking when the car is off. I suppose the fuel sock could be clogged as well, and it just gets more pronounced when you stomp the gas, though I'm uncertain how that'd explain the previously extremely intermittent nature of the issue.

You state that when the car turns off you have lights but no power. Are you suggesting that the "no power" means the other items in the car which are powered by the charging system such as the radio and wipers and turn signals and so on are left w/o power? If so then go to the engine fuse box and see how there is a Black cable bolted to the bottom of the fuse box that is on the side of the fuse box that is on the farthest side from the battery (there is also a cable on the battery side of the fuse box) and see if this connection is a solid one. Then located below will be a Black connector which mates the cable coming off the far side of the fuse box which connects to another Black cable. Make sure this connection is secure as it supplies voltage to the ignition switch. A loose connection at either of these two points illustrated might be causing your problem.

Sorry for the muddyness, I mean that it has no torque, no horsepower, no engine noise, no nothing. The car is on, but the engine is dead. Sometimes it stays dead for quite a while, sometimes only a second or two, sometimes it alternates so rapidly you feel like a giant is shaking you. But essentially there's no combustion taking place.

The point I previously illustrated would also cause your problem possibly. You could also disconnect the 4 wire plug from the Main relay and jumper the following wires. Black/Green to Black/Yellow and White/Blue to Black/White. Leave the plug unconnected after it is jumpered. Doing this will bypass the Main relay and it will supply the injectors, coils, sensors and ECU with constant power. A faulty relay/ground to relay could cause power to shut off the items just mentioned. Do this just to test to see if it helps as jumpering these two sets of wires will eventually drain the battery. Again, the Black wire connected to the far side of the Engine fuse box as stated in my previous post could also contribute to your problem. Also, a poor connection between the two Orange connectors located to the top and to the right of the ECU could cause this problem as well. And such things as the fuel pump cutting out could be a factor as well as other components related to the fuel circuit. Poor grounds related to the ECU could also be a factor.

I had a similar problem myself.. turned out that the main fuse was loose (80-100amp under the hood in the fuse block)
