Question odd Idle and "on throttle" issue on a car I want to buy... maybe an easy fix?

Ok, heres the thing, we just got an 88 vert at work, I want it...bad 57000 ORIGINAL miles on the car, could pick it up for about 2 grand... sounds great right?

problem is this... it will hold an idle (barely) but it's extremely lumpy, like the engine can't quite decide where to idle, jumps between about 1k-3k on the tach.
Also, if I push the gas more than say 1/4 ways in, it trys to stall on me. There is a pretty constant clicking noise in the engine bay. from the drivers side (I think) somewhere pretty close to the UIM, but I can't pinpoint it... almost sounds like a solenoid clicking rapidly
maybe even the sparkplugs not doing their job? very very odd, never had a similar problem with my other 7.

I need to decide whether or not 2 pay the 50 bucks for state inspection, and I don't have much time b4 it's sent to wholesale auction! ANY IDEAS?????? im thinking that if i'm lucky, it's the TPS. And if you think it's a vacum leak
(I know I sound stupid) please explain 2 me how to check for one! THANKS IN ADVANCE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Could be a number of things. Haul it to a dealer and get a compression check done, that'll decide if it's worth your time or not.

Then it's going to be hard to tell, could be an AFM issue, BAC issue, bad solenoid, all sorts of things. You can check for vac leaks with a can of carb cleaner.

Spray carb cleaner while the car is running. I have a feeling one of the solenoids is sticking or has a bad connection causing it. Take 4mm vac line and put it next to solenoids/fuel injectors/whatever might click and the other end to your ear. Youll beable to find whats clicking in no time with out removing anything.
