Odd Electrical Issues
I helped a friend aquire an '87 and am trying to resolve any issues with it before she takes it. During the last couple of days I noticed that items like the wipers and sun roof would stop working. I cleaned the contacts on the fuses and hopefully they are fixed.
However, the fuel guage goes from working to non-working, the speedometer either works fine or reads very high, the air vents always blow out the dash vents and no where else, and finally the dash clock goes from bright to barely visible. In other words, I have eletrical problems.
Are their any connections between the various compenents that could be linked back to a single failure point?
Thanks,
Bill in Long Beach

The only thing common to the sunroof and wipers, is the 2nd ignition wire (black/red). But I would be checking the fuses first. Remember with ATC fuses, you can not always see when they have broken, only when they have blown with major current. You should test them with a digital multi-meter before calling them fine.
As far as the air blowing only out of the vents, it is probably a bad logicon or bad air mode motor.
The clock is related to cold solder joints in the clock/idiot warning panel. You could try re-soldering the joints where the harness plugs into the clock warning panel, as well as the ribbon leads inside it, if you are good with soldering.
I have rebuilt Logicons, wiper switches, and clock/ warning panels available on my website. Or can rebuild yours for you.
