Occasional trouble with starting

My 90 RX-7 GXL sometimes doesnt start at all and shows that theres no power from the battery unless i touch both of the battery terminals with my fingers. I tried to take it out to drive it on my street but after i backed up, went to first gear and it just stopped. I tried to start the car again but it wouldnt start up. I waited a while and then tried to start it again and the car ran perfectly fine so I dont know what the problem is.. I have a new Optima battery too. When it wont start, it shows on the gauge that the battery is giving just under 12 volts and then after a while again it shows that the volts are higher and it starts fine. Also when shifting, I had the car parked and i was able to shift to different gears without pressing the clutch very easily using very little force so i dont know whats up with that either. Theres nothing wrong with the clutch either, no grinding or anything so my car is acting really weird.

The wire going to the battery connector might be corroded or loose.
There should be two wires going to the positive side of the battery, the starter power cable, and another that goes to the fuse box in the engine bay.

Check your negative battery cable for corrosion, and not just toward the terminal, as far as you can trace it. Like black knight said there should be 2 positive wires and a single negative. Also wouldnt hurt to change out your terminal connectors for new ones if you havent already. I do this on my older cars every couple years for my own piece of mind but its also good practice to get new ones when installing a new battery. Plus when they are off you can inspect the wires as well.

Might not hurt to check the altenator connection on the top post of you altenator while your at it.
