o2 sensor wiring question.

my 88 turbo has a universal o2 sensor that the po installed, it seriously look like a hack job. sensor wiring cut and twisted onto a random wire off the harness. So my question is where exactly is the o2 sensor wiring/plug located and what color is it, just so i can make sure and fix it right. i already order a new sensor, just want to make sure its installed right.

the wire comes out of the harness with the BAC valve connector on the TII harnesses, on the series 4 n/a it came out of the very end of the harness at the rear of the LIM/UIM junction. series 5 n/a should come out near the ACV connectors.

the O2 wire itself is a thick black insulated wire, if you cut it open you will see a stainless braided material which is used for nullifying electrical noise. there is an inner wire beneath that outer sheath which is the wire itself for the O2 sensor. when splicing on a new connector or connection do not attach the braided line to the connection as it is grounded near the ECU and will kill the O2 sensor signal making your effort worthless. cut back the outer layer carefully about an inch or so to expose the actual O2 sensor wire.

the OEM connector off the harness was yellow for the early model series 4 and green for the late model series 4 and large/square in shape. the series 5 was a small black tab lock connector.

As of right now, the entire thick black wire is connected directly to a wire which had no insulation on it going to the harness. i put one of those electrical connectors to see if it would help, but i figured the o2 wasn't doing anything. When i get the new o2 tomorrow, ill try to connect it without cutting it apart. the picture i added, i circled it in red, thats the connection that the o2 is on. and 1 more question, what goes to that connector on the thermostat housing, i circled it in yellow. thanks

the yellow connector is for the auxiliary fan which is fitted to some A/C equipped cars.

can't tell if the O2 is wired up ok but just keep in mind that the original wire has 2 layers and they can't be combined or the ECU will never see a switching signal properly.
