Does anyone know of an easy way to test if its working properly, also how much would a new one cost?

it will pull an engine code if it is not working...

A generic Bosch replacement sensor is $20-$35 depending on how bad your local auto parts store screws you.

You know without the air pump you are killing it and your cats a lot quicker.

well the cats are removed, but as far as I know you only need the air pump to actuate the 5/6 ports

Not on a S5 N/A, you also need to for the VDI (besides the aux ports and cats and 02)
