Thumbs up

I have the latest Quick Release and Locking thing...ITS A MUST!!!

I had it in my last two cars and love it. The newest one is even easier to use than the older ones and its a bit shorter. All I can say is I dont feel safe leaving my car out unless my steering wheel is off and the hub is locked. Definately worth the investment.

I have my doubts about them keeping zero-play for very long. The design inherently requires very close tolerances to not have freeplay, and this causes anything but extremely durable materials to wear themselves out very quickly...

Which is to say, avoid the 30-dollar eBay knockoffs (although the NRG one is technically a knockoff of the 300-dollar RapFix hub) like the plague, as they will wear out after a week or use (severe play, although it's still drivable...), and the people who sell them don't take returns, and have terrible customer service (they ignore you unless you're really mad)... not to mention the one I got had RUST on the bearings.

Personally I think the old versions had the best possible length, when combined with the Momo boss hub.

If NRG is willing to put their money where their mouth is, and guarantee ZERO play for at least two years (assuming you use the quick-release on a daily basis), I'd be willing to get one (since a 65mm spacer is going to cost like 60 bucks regardless).

Ive had two...this latest one I have (2.5 Generation) has ZERO play...been about 6 months and its constantly on and off with occasional Road Racing during last season.

The last one I had for about a year...ZERO play the entire time I had it. All I know is it seems to be getting better each release.

I had a Sparco Quick Release...horrible. I had play on that thing quick. Though it was the easiest to get on and off...if someone had a similar Sparco Adapter...they could easily plug in and drive away. At least my NRG has a locking hub thats pretty strong. If anything it will take a lot of time and noise to get off.

I'm using a NRG quick release hub...I like it alot, at first I was skeptical but it was a risk worth taking. I say go ahead and get one the quality is awesome IMO. Don't go cheap with steering hub because I don't think your going to want steering wheel to pop off when you going like 100+ mph, if you catch my drift. Good Luck with the 7!!

Again...for the ones I have compared and seen:

Sparco - NO
Ebay Specials (cheapy ones) - NO
NRG - YES

Those are the ones I have experience with...meaning Ive actually had them installed. The only one that survived and I still use and will continue to use and buy is the NRG one. BUY THE LOCKING HUB THAT GOES OVER IT! I dont feel safe unless its on every night. For the price...its definitely worth knowing you have some added security. Anyone can tow the car away...but no access to the steering wheel hub...chances are greatly reduced for theft. Not to mention it will take a lot of time to even get it off in the first place.

Curious, does anyone know the cheapest place to get the hub?

NOPI has what I think are second-gens (could be first gen?) with free shipping, and a 3-dollar rebate, for a total of 69 bucks.

Wait, no, they're first gen... they want 100 bucks for the second gen.

Also, what does "self-locking" mean, and is the second gen that much better than the first gen?
