Hey folks, i've had 90 vert for about 6 weeks now & i'm trying fix it up i bit to get it back into respectable shape. And now the check engine light is coming on. Its not on all the time, comes on, goes off, comes back on, etc.. No apparent pattern yet & havent figured out if i can make it come on. Any ideas on what to check before taking it in and having a mechanic do diagnostic work done? Any help would be appreciated!!!

I really didn't need to to start on me right now, just spent my current/short term budget i set on this car. I've put a new clutch in it. Have a new top on order. Short shifter done. Stereo is in crappy shape. And i wanna do exhaust too.

 

You need to go to an autoparts store and get a code reader.. usually they let you use one for free.

Or, you can ground the green single diagnostic plug on the drivers side of the engine bay, near the front strut and get the engine check light to blink the diagnostic codes. You can find these codes on the internet and probably on this site as well. Look at - www.rx7city.com/ecucodes.htm. Check the section for 88-91 RX7s.
