Notchy Shifter

Considering buying a 1986 base model. Great body and interior but the shifter is very notchy going between gears -- my old 86 RX7 was as smooth as it could be. Anybody know possible causes for this? Bad transmission or just linkage adjustment, or what? 186k miles.

There is no linkage. You could probably fix most of it with new shifter bushings, $30 dollars or so.

I got my new shifter bushings from the dealer for less than $10.
