Not your average non-starting question.... I think...
Ok, guys... i'm back again with another non-start problem.... you may remember me from last time when I just had a stuck AFM problem, but now things are a bit weirder....
I recently had a huge oil leak coming from my 87 TII, so I went about trying to find it in a roundabout way.... took off the oil pan and resealed it with gasket maker, just in case and filled the car back up thinking things were fixed. It spewed out oil once again, and after turning on the car again after it stalled from oil loss I found out it was the oil cooler line. Went about fixing that problem and patched up everything again and now there's no leak, but it only starts and then dies.... Even tapping the gas lightly after it starts, it just dies immediately.....
Now, I do remember taking out the AFM once but I hooked it right back up (currently it has a cone filter on it instead of the stock airbox) and when I checked the actual piping behind it leading to the turbo it was loose from the turbo side and had a split from the lip of the hose.... didn't think it was that much of a problem, so i put it back on and tightened it.... I think the AFM does work, for when I turn the key to start and just open the flap, I hear a slight whoosh come from the engine as if something opened up....
Now i've checked all around the AFM looking for a vaccuum leak and I have seen none, and unless when the oil line was destroyed it took out a hose or something I don't think I have any other problems with other lines..... (It did run just fine before all of this oil crap started) The only thing that may stand out of the ordinary is the plastic covering of the AFM hook-up that protects the wires inside is gashed, but all the wires are ok.....
I've also eliminated the flooding idea by cleaning the spark plugs and rotating the engine by hand to get all the extra crap out.... after doing that, it started strongly but then died out again.....
I'm outta ideas, guys...... think you can help?

this might not be it, but it's cured two non start RX7's....replace your ECU.
both of the ones I worked on had dead ecu's. you could get them to run after deflooding them, but they'd crap out and die again.
a dead ecu will send power to the leading coil but not the trailing side...thus a flooding engine

I would check and maybe replace all of the vacuum lines. Also make sure everything is sealed well leading to the engine because it sounds like a big vacuum leak. Also make sure the TPS is plugged in.

Sounds to me like something is not giving the engine fuel after startup... or giving it too much. When you crank the car, the ECU automatically puts a set amount of fuel through the injectors. After the engine starts, the car is supposed to run on the normal maps (be it cold start or normal running) and use the O2 input, the TPS and the MAF and the Boost Sensor input to set the injector dudty cycle....
Check that your boost sensor is hooked up, check the vaccume line going from it to the trottlebody, you could have bumped it when messing with the MAF. (this will cause what you are describing) check the TPS wiring, etc.

Okay,
Few things here.. Dont just replace your ECU. TEST IT:
http://www.teamfc3s.org/info/article...odes/main.html
This will avoid some guess work.
Second, this sounds like a vac leak as much as you dont like to hear it. Or your AFM is not plugged in. Why, do you ask? Well, its simple. When you put your key to "start" the fuel pump turns on. Once you return the key to the "ON" position, the ECU looks for a signal from the AFM saying "IM RUNNING!". If that signal isnt present (large vac leak or unplugged AFM), the car will shut back down.

He's working on it. He's also discovered that the Alternator bolt is stripped and won't hold tension on the belt. Sounds like the battery is dead abd the alt isn't charging. That would explain your shitty idle and why it dies when you gag it. I'll try to be there Saturday with my multimeter.

lol, my bad for the confusing post.... what I meant was "Maybe since I don't have enough gas and am sitting on a slope, it's not getting enough gas to the engine?"
As for new updates, I noticed a small crack in the hose connecting the BOV to under the intercooler... it's right at the tip and it seems another one is forming near it.... Perhaps that's the cause?
