not you regular shifter bushing question

ok, for those who dont know i swaped out my auto for manual in my S5 gxl. me and a friend put it in and have not been able to get into second gear, i put in new shifter bushings cause the ones that were in there were messed up. that made the shifter less sloppy and tighter, but i still cant get into second.

now, i know 2nd gens dont have the "often overlooked bushing" that the 1st and 3rd gens do, but when i got my trans it had that bushing in there. it was tore up so we took it out. is it possible that i need to get that bushing and thats why i cannot get it into second.

its part A in this picture.

should i got and get one, or is it not worth a shot
