Unhappy not starting please help

I went and bought a 86 gxl its not running but I got it for pennies so I figured I might as well buy it. I turned it over and it didnt even want to start. I did a compression test on it and it was 85 everywhere. It has new plugs and wires but the prevous owner had the leading plugs and trailing plugs mixed up. I put that to how its soppost to be, turned it over and it sounded a little like it wanted to go but still not really. I pulled the plugs again to check for spark and it did but very slightly. I know its getting gas cuz before I did the compression test I tried starting it and when we pulled the plugs they had gas on them and I know it has compression so now im thinking not enough spark and im gonna check the air intake after work today. if theres any suggestions of things to check please tell me cuz im totally stumped right now. ohh yeah the previous owner had it running about a month ago but it only started the once for him and he couldent get it going again. thanks in advance for any help

Its prob really flooded. Do a search on unflooding procedure. But the short version is:
1) remove EGI fuse
2) crank over with foot on acc. pedal (to the floor) do for 10 seconds.
3) replace EGI fuse
4) try to start w/o touching the acc pedal
This is the simple procedure...there is a more involved process for severe flooding, but I dotn want to type a novel.

You might have to do it more than once.

I had to do it 8 times when I first bought the car and didn't know what I was doing. Did the famous 30 sec start-shut off, and flooded it REALLY bad. Pulled the damn fuse 8 times, and finally it started.

Don't do it in an air-tight garage, cause a crap load of smoke will pour out your tail pipe(s).

if it's heavily flooded, you may have to put some motor oil through the plug holes to help seal the combustion chambers.

Do a search. The procedure is all over the place.
