Question Not going into gear?!?!?! Someone please help!!

My car ran fine all day yesterday. Upon going to work this morning, i was sitting in traffic with the clutch pushed in and it jolted slightly. It was very unusual, but i didnt feel anything was wrong. When i proceeded to shift from 2nd to 3rd, it would not go. Then it got to a point where it will not go in any gear. The clutch feels fine, checked all the fluids they are ok as well. Now when i go to start it while its in gear, it just jumps a little and cuts off. I have no clue what it could be. I just had the clutch replace about 2yrs ago and i do use this car everyday. What could it be?

well few things, make sure all your hydraulics MOVE, when you clutch in (get a friend to push pedal, and look for slave cylinder movement. if slave doesnt move, check master and slave, replace both at 65? or so dollars for the set from ebay.

ok... it moves, now this is not good, bleed out system, recheck. if ok, no further steps necessary.

if problem persist...

remove transmission, check clutch throwout bearing, clutch pressure plate, clutch disc, pilot bearing, flywheel, replace as necessary.

yes it shifts into gear while the motor is not running. When i try to go in reverse while the car is running it gives a loud grinding sound.

i have to do the same thing and i have similar problems. For my car im 100% sure its the pilot bearing. Midas well replace the throw out bearing also because for both bearing and front + rear seals ur total is at like $50... small price to pay for future problems if you ask me...

Check brake fluid and/or bleed out the slave cylinder

You're right I think. I had the same deal and it was a mangled pilot bearing along with a shattered clutch disc! When the Pilot bearing goes out you can't shift.

It could be hydraulics, so have someone push the clutch pedal and watch the clutch slave cylinder to be sure the piston is coming out and pushing the clutch fork. If it is indeed pushing and exteding an inch or so (I forget off hand how far it should extend), then it's either a broken clutch fork, or more likely a bad pilot bearing.

Fortunately pilot bearings are cheap. Unfortunately they are an absolute pain to get out.

Unless they use an off brand TO/pilot and end up using no seal. Then it will only be a matter of time before you waste another 50 bucks. Use only Mazda OEM parts.
