Unhappy Not getting Power

I have a 90 GTU that I had got very cheap for a parts car for my 86 GXL. (Inside & out in great shape) Ended up finding out that the 90 was Flooded. I got it un-flooded and it is running, but now I can't get any power. It won’t go over 35-40mph.
I have taken it over to a friends shop to check the compression (haven't heard back yet).
Is there anything else that might be causing this that I should look for?
Any help would be appreciated.

Who ever had the car before replaced the Cat w/ a straight pipe. Other than that there are not any mods.
The car idles great when it is sitting. It's just when I drive it than I lose power.
