Hey all! I am fairly new to the rx7 "scene" coming from the nissan side of things, but got my first rx7 about a week ago, and you wont believe the price...

Lets start out from the beginning, I first owned a 240sx, had it for about a year and a half (loved that car) It never let me down until one night i ignored the check engine light, and over heated, thus warping the head. So i traded it plus some cash to a drift fan boy for a 91 miata with a hard top. I liked the car, other than the fact that it leaked oil like it was going out of style because the PO rebuilt it, and the diff was going out and made the worst noise ever.

So after dumping like $500 into it to get it to pass smog (which it never did) I decided to sell/trade it. It took a few weeks, but an auto shop teacher finally bought it to build into a track car. So i had cash in my pocket, and i had another 240sx lined up to buy. I went out right after i sold the miata and bought the 240.

About 3/4 of the way home the car died at a stop light, we push it into a gas station and jump it and there is a knock like the valve cover is being hammered on... engine is toast. So I am on craigs list again to find another car.

I happen to find an FC for 500, about 2 hours away from me. His ad says it wont start due to flooding, and i had just unflooded my friends vert' so i thought i would look into it. After talking to the guy i was convinced to go check it out. (and he said if it got it out of his drive way i could have it for 400)

We get there and i can not get the thing to start, it wants to, but wont fire up. I then notice that the car is on a hill, and i ask how much gas is in the tank, and he says "not much" then i ask if we can roll the car onto flat ground and try, and once we do so it fires right up! I drove it home 250 miles that night and have been driving it daily since!

Needed car fast, found craigslist ad for 500 FC that wont start, got it to start and paid 400 for it.

 

your off to a good start, it usually takes owning 2 or 3 7s to find the great under 500 doller deals for running 7s, i just pick up a 99k miles s5 gtu and a 120k mile s4 gxl, for my burnt up caddy :P. been driving the gtu around all day.

looks clean, turbo rims, spoiler, other aero parts, to bad it doesnt have a turbo :P
how many miles are on it? is it a GTU?

it has 16XXXX miles on it, i am sure its a GTU, but doesnt say it, because it was repainted from red (there is red showing all over the place) The main thing the car needs is a paint job.

 

you do realize that it can be a bitch to make these cars pass smog right? not a bad find though. Looks like a stock 88 Turbo II, minus the hood.

 

The car passed fine in december according to the PO

 

you basically stole that car. any 7 ive seen for 500 has the seals out of the motor. that alone makes you ahead of the game. Looks clean, would make a good daily driver.

good luck with your new car just do a full tune up replace fluids and things and your ready to go

 

haha i got a s4 with a brigeport that had 1 mile on the new motor for $500, guy couldnt get it to idle so it sat and then sold it to me, i tightened up 1 screw and it idles, the body also had only 47,xxx miles too

 

good find but i got one better 300 for '90 that just needed tuneup still running year and a half later

Thanks for the replies, i know i got one hell of a deal with this one, But after taking a hit on that 240 i kinda just broke even.

The car runs great too, had/has a few small issues, such as: speedo didnt work (cable was unplugged from the cluster) gas gauge only reads till 3/4 tank then it drops to empty, the sun roof is stuck up (any help on that one would be great!)

Im going to be saving up for suspension first (wish i had done that with my first 240) Then paint. Around my area though, every one gives rx7's ****, saying that are "weed eaters" and asking if i mowed any lawns with it yet. Or that its going to just explode on me. stupid people....

 

most people who talk crap about the rotary engine don't know *****.

Dude, you have stock exhaust. they are really quiet and smooth with stock exhaust. I've driven a stock 10th anniversary with 80k on it and it was about as quiet as my Infiniti Q45. it's only a weed wacker when you put in a loud exhaust like a corksport.

 

great score.........i just got an 86 with a fresh motor for 250 that ran horrible..... with four leading plugs in it......fixed that but still wont idle........id like to know what screw rotary-guy turned.

 

ive got a full 3" exhaust with 4.5" high flow mufflers and the only weed wacker sound i hear is coming from the back of the house....


and good job of the find. i got my first 7 for 2k ( 10ae 1st gen)
and my second 6.5k (also had to put a new motor in it)

Yeah thats an awesome deal. Emissions should never cost you more than like $300 cause thats usually what it takes to get it done illegally. I say find someone local (search local forums) that can pass you for a small fee and ditch the stock exhaust.

 

Awesome deal man! I hate you! It took me a couple years to find my 88 T2 with under 54K. Of course I paid through the nose for it....... Now I'm looking for a second one.....
