7 w/6port engine (I'm a noob.. is that a TII?) anyway.. it's a non turbo...
you just answered that question its a non turbo, so its not a Turbo II (TII)

He's asking me what needs to be done to achieve this..
A LOT of money $$$$

what rpm does the engine start to lose it's power??
around 6500 rpm

hope someone else can help you a little more.

stock... 8000RPM is pushing your luck. The turbo cars.. 7500 is pushing your luck.

14,000RPM takes at least $5-10,000 in money... not to mension a non-streetable powerband (no torque below 7K.. fun!), and HUGE ports... and NO exhaust... basically it can't be easily done in a street car.

they're revvy motors, but.. not that revvy.

Err... this all doesn't sound good.

Sounds like he needs to do some research. The rotary power through the revs is like a dream anyways. It almost seems impossible that youre already revving at 7k. I dont see how this could be any better...

btw whats a TII have for an engine?
it has a 4 port turbocharged version of the same motor as the N/A's. its a 13b-t (turbo) VS. a 13b (N/A)

Thats why I'm here! where can I get some answers to print off to him and so he may read up? are there any good books for him to read out there?
you may want to try emailing or calling http://www.atkinsrotary.com/

they rebuild motors, and know a lot about rotary engines. I'm sure they will be able to help. they may even be able to build the motor your friend is looking for.

I'd have him talk to an engine builder more so than ask us for advice. Try looking up Pineapple Racing and talking to the guys there about your goals. That's your best bet

What does he want to do with the car? Different applications will require different ways to go about it. Also print him the FAQ at the top of the page to get him familiar with rx7s in general.

Blah well there goes the whole idea behind a 50/50 weight distribution...

Instead of revs he might want to look into a more flat torque curve instead of having a turbo that will lag all the way to 7k and then punch in...

yah try going past 8, and you'll get to see what a blow 13b looks like.... actually there are some vids on kaaza of this 1st gen that was pushed way to hard durning a burn out and the hood, side panels, exaust, front bumper all going flying off, and the engine bay burst into flames, kinda cool looking actually... feel bad for the engine though....

high rpm with usable power for drag? massive porting + balanced/hardened/lightened/clearanced engine internals. and by that time you could have dropped in a different $15,000 engine that will put down way more torque.

The 20b is a triple rotor turbocharged engine. Talking about putting a 350 in is a good way to get flamed up the *** on this forum, so it's good he doesn't want to. And as mentioned previously, the car would not be streetable if built to run at that high of rpm's.

I'll chime in on a few things...
You said he eventually wants to build a turbo motor. I don't think you should invest any money in the NA. If he's going to keep the NA rather than buying a TII, I suggest you read through the NA --> TII conversion thread in the archive.

If you go the turbo route, you can enjoy some serious streetable power. 1FastT2 and Soul Assassin on this forum come to mind among many others with 400-600 hp. Check out they're mods as far as porting styles, ect.

If you go the NA route, a high revving engine will be necessary, but I think 14,000 is a little high! Try searching for dyno runs on peripheral port engines and see where they made power. I think this is a very expensive way to make much less power than the turbo, not to mention it isn't streetable with the extreme porting required.

I'm no expert, but there are a few on this forum! Try searching for the users I posted above to see what they have and also for peripheral port engines and bridge ported engines.

Here is a possibility for street & drag.

Have one of the high performance builders mentioned above build him a clearanced, hardened, large (but not huge) port, 9kPRM engine & set it up for a big nitrous shot.

Then only use the nitrous at the track.

Of course it will need a turbo drive line to handle the power.
