Unhappy noise on rear end when cornering

Help !
when cornering slowly or reversing there is a notchy clunky feel to the rear end of the car like the diff is shot please someone tell me different and is this a common fault .
how much to cure?
this only happens when driven about a mile and its got warm.
it does not happen under accelaration unless cornering under load.i understand this is a limited slip diff on this car.it is a jap import to the uk
oh and the oil has been changed in the diff.
is it dangerous?
and also what spec oil for the engine?1988 mazda rx7 turbo e-fc3s
many thanks

Worn clutches in the diff perhaps? Perhaps a worn slip yoke, I think that's what it's called. Or is that only on solid rear axle cars?

have changed the diff oil and no difference.
the notchy clunk is only on one wheel off side rear.it is if there is a tooth missing or something in the gearing is misaligned.

if someone changed the oil and did not add friction modifier additive to the rear end it will have these symptoms. service the differential again if it was not added and hope it did not damage the clutches.

would friction modifier cause these symptoms?are we talking molyslip?the owners manual specifies ep90 gear oil only.
would molyslip really make any difference?.

how much to replace the clutches?
would it take a short time to damage the clutches without molyslip added.it has always had oil in it for certain not sure of the molyslip additivethough.
cheers mate.

I work at a garage and we get that alot with lots of vehicles. Most have a humming noise, but normally that noise means what everyone else said. Change the diff fluid. Stock diff takes 80W 90

should i use additive? or am i wasting money.is it critical that the diff oil is mixed with additive?

if you have the clutch type lsd that wouldnt make the clunky noise... if you had the later model with the helical gear lsd that would create a clunky chunky noise... i have built many 4x4 trucks with clutch type lsd's and helical gear lsd's and lockers... but even in the rx7 you shouldnt be hearing it a whole lot especially when you turning it allows the lsd to slip and give one wheel more traction... so it might be that you have a worn rear end... tryin using redline, royal purple, or amsoil in your rear end

Could be the cv joint boots are cracked, and the joints themselves are on the way out.
