No warning lights key ON engine OFF, alternator issue

Hey guys, started the car up (88 4 lug, 87 T2 & T2 wiring harness, S5 alt w/ re-wire) to go to work and as I'm driving, the voltmeter only showed ~10V w/ the lights on. Definitely no charge from the alt.

I'm getting NO warning lights on w/ the key on & engine off, this is with a re-built warning cluster which fully illuminated the previous day.

What I'm wondering is, is this something obvious that's failed that I'm over looking: voltage regulator in alt, relay somewhere, etc?

Or is it what I really think is an wiring "gremlin"- AKA, result of me tampering with things but now it's since failed/come undone/etc.

Just wondering if anyone's had the same experience due to the failing of an actual component, and that my case will be similar.

Thanks!

Unplug the White/Black wire from the back of the alternator and ground this wire. Then w/key to on check to see if the warning lights come on. If they do then the problem is the alternator.

Thanks!!

You know I've always hated seeing people say "I'll try this weekend when I get time" but god DAMN can life really get in the way sometime!! Tomorrow I'll diagnose & hopefully put this one to bed, and will post the results just for future use, etc.

Thanks again dude

You should send the original poster a pm and ask him if he figured the issue out. This thread has had no activity for 6 years.. I know Landon is still pretty active around here so he should have an answer for you within a couple days.
