I am working on a 87 turbo2 FC that is my friends. The car doesnt seem to have fuel but the injectors are firing (the fuel feed line is pulsing when you are trying to start the vehicle). Also, if I remove the leading plugs I get plumes of fuel out of the spark plug holes. If I squirt starting fluid into the intake (after intercooler/pre throttle body) it fires up and runs until it uses all the starting fluid. To me indicating CAS timing to be correct and compression to be good. I have checked;

CAS position
2 different ECUs
a different resistor pack (injector)
made sure that fuel flows when you open the afm flap door.
Injectors were recently flow tested and cleaned

I have just had the epiphany of checking fuel pressure, any other suggestions for idiot things I could have overlooked?

If you have spark, you have fuel, then you need compression. Check fuel pressure, if you have fuel pressure, then check the compression.

Make sure the car isn't flooding....

There is a ton of stuff that could be going on.

One of my favorote tests is to plug a spare CAS on the harness and with the key on spin the gear, you should hear/see the spark plugs going as well as the injectors.

Also check the intake hoses going to your intake pipe, if they're loose/off it won't allow to start the car.

I am gonna check fuel pressure tomorrow. The compression has supposedly been checked, although not by me, and is more than adequate. I believe it to be true as the pulses sound strong and that it fires immediately after using starting fluid. I don't think starting fluid would overcome bad compression, correct?

Miles, the car doesn't seem to be flooding because there is no fuel on the plugs when removing them, I have deflooded it several times though just to be sure all to no avail. The intake hoses are all tight and I haven't seen any possible vacuum leaks the last 2 times I have removed the intake. I like the spare CAS idea and will definitely be doing this.

I would check fuel pressure with a gauge (autozone mechanical oil press gauge works nicely) and a T fitting. put the T inline with teh fuel filter and see what she reads. the stock FPR has been known to fail and is probably flooding the engine

Another thing you can do to check FI operation, although a but raw is to remove the air filter and by hand move the flapper(S4's) or the cone (S5's) on your air meter you should hear the injectors clearly.
