no radio, no clock - Here one second, gone the next
After splicing into the cruise control G/R wire for my turbo timer I put everything back together on my car. I crank it over and my radio doesn't turn on and my clock won't show. My dummy lights; however, are all fine. It's an aftermarket face, if that would make any difference. It has worked fine for the entire time I've owned the car which is just over a year now. Any guesses as to where I should start? I'd venture to say that maybe I broke a ground loose when I was banging around?? Stupid electricity.

If it isnt the fuse youll have to solder all the connections on the clock unit. Take it out, open it up, there are three circuit boards. Get a low powered iron and solder and redo all the joints. My clock used to flicker, after about 30 mins of soldering It works perfect now.

bizump, I swapped the 7.5amp room fuse from the kickpanel, and it did nothing. Only things that I've noticed that are affected: clock, radio won't turn on, sunroof won't budge. All worked fine before. Maybe some other fuse?

hmmm after looking around I see the sunroof has it's own fuse. I don't see how I could have blown two fuses, and the room fuse apparently was fine. Gaaah there is no way the clock needs to be resoldered and the radio's ground connections broke off or something all at once. I'll be tooling around with it some more, but suggesitons are welcome

radio grounds by the backets to the body of the car in the dash. Pretty hard to break that ground unless the radio is not mounted using the factory brackets.
The sunroof uses the same power as the ABS (if equipped) and the AAS.
But the warning/idiot lights do get their constant 12V+ from the room fuse, as does the radio.
Are you sure you checked the room fuse??

I popped open the fuse box cover. I noticed the room fuse was about 1/2 inch above the rest of the fuses. I disconnected negative terminal of battery, and replaced the fuse. Is the room fuse supposed to be a little above the rest of the fuses?

try pushing it down harder
sticking out further than the rest? i dont have my car with me right now...but i just recently replaced the room fuse, and i dont recall that. did you try pushing down harder on it? either way...you said that your idiot lights are working, and those run off of the room fuse...so its something else. like ice mark said- check your grounds for your radio...since it is aftermarket, pull it out and make sure all of the connections are secure.

Believe the Rocket man.... My clock did some stupid things last year, I tore it apart and inspected the solder joints w/ a magnifier, and found cracks. Re-soldered and clock is fixed. Doesn't have any connection to the other problems, but old age and vibration....

Ok let's try and get the focus off of the clock. It is a new idiot light cluster I got when I bought the car a year ago. I was doing some more wiring for my turbo timer, and when I turned on the car ALL the functions I listed were gone. I discovered another today - all wiper selections. So to recap:
1. radio won't turn on
2. sunroof won't move
3. clock is gone, but idiot lights work
4. windshield wipers are totally gone
I was getting a warning for my cooling fan now as well off and on.
I've changed the room fuse 7.5 amp 3 times just to tripple check. It has no effect. What's next?

If the wipers are not working as well as the cooling fan, then the large gauge Black/Red 2nd ignition wire from the ignition switch is disconnected or you have a bad switch.
Do the mirrors work? how about the heat air condition?
could you just have the ignition switch plugs unplugged, like the one for the Black/red and the one for the Blue???
How did you make your taps for the T-timer...
also do the back up lights work with the key on???
and why were you tapping into the speed sensor wire at the cruise anyway. I have never heard of a T-timer needing to know of vehicle speed.

I was tapping into the speed spensor at the cruise to see if I could get a speed rating for some extra functions on the type 1. Well I did finally get an accurate speed reading and I can use it for useless stuff like 0-400M, 0-100m/hour, and other useless stuff like that.
Here's a real doozy I found on accident today. I pulled into the driveway and turned the key off so the car starts turbo timing down from 30 second. I accidently brush the wipers and they work. Wait a second....I put the key into on position and drop the e-brake so my car is no longer counting down....wipers won't work. I turn off the car and have the car counting down and the damn wipers work again!!! I WAS pounding around down there by harness for my turbo timer (which does plug into ignition) so maybe I have one of them loose? God I pray that's it, I can't keep up with this car. It's a love hate relationship that's leaning drastically towards hate right now.
I ran a 13.8@104 on 10 pounds.
