No power after 6000 RPM :(

Hi, I'm new to this forum. I found a lot of answers to my questions Thank you.

But now I'm stuck with a problem.

After 6000 RPM my powerband disapears , I get no more power and I know I'm supposed to get power to 7000 ish RPM.

I dunno if my ports are working well, but Ive put out the 2 air pumps and tried different configurations, I don't think it is the problem.

I got a jobber's fuel pump, may it be the problem?

I can't do less than 16.500 at the 1/4 mile, when I shift, the car goes like it has lack of power, it is not because of my shifting. The car bucks a little then it gets some power back..

Anyone has any idea?

Thanks

Nick

I got a 1986 rx7 with a 1989 engine ( s5 ).

I did the maintenance recently ( Spark plugs, oil change, air filtrer and new straps )

Are you using the S5 engine with a S5 ECU or using the S4 ECU with the S5 engine?

Remove the actuator for the VDI and make sure you can spin the VDI port sleeve easily. If you need to apply a fair amount of force, you will need to remove the VDI sleeve and clean out any gunk or carbon that has been built up. YOu may need to remove the UIM to do this. The Sleeve is designed to be used dry so applying oil or lubricate could make it worse.

Sounds like your AUX ports are working since you would loose power around 5000 if I remember without AUX.

Make sure the actuators hold pressure and move freely and also that the air pumps supply enough pressure to actuate the actuators

I'm not sure about the computer, but im 70% sure its a s5. The sleeves are moving freely without any resistance. When I've blown in the air pump tube, the *thingy* goes up without problem. Since I tried different ports *oppening configuration* I don't think they're the problem.

I'll check up the other things you mentioned but I'm not sure about the jobber's fuel pump's performance.

Well I don't know anything about the jobbers fuel pump but the stock n/a fuel pump is more then enough for anything the n/a would ever make on a normal budget.

So you are saying you have a S5 ECU, S5 Harness and Engine?

What do you have for an exhaust setup? Still running emmisions?

Rotaman mentioned the VDI but in your response it sounded like you were talking about the 5th and 6th ports. Did you check the VDI?

They are 91 stockers. How can someone love their car and not have tons of photos of it? Click on the link below:

I still have the stock exhaust -1 cat.

Maybe 1 of the 2 cat is blocked by something... I'll take a look at it

On a Series 5 he should be getting power to about 7500-7800 rpm. If that CATs were clogged, he could be running rich. If his VDI is not working, he could possibly be running rich as well.

On my car I was running lean up top but I have open exhaust and intake. My power would end around 6000-6500 like his. After adding fuel I had my power back to 7800. Recently with the added fuel my power dips off at 6000-6500 again and sometimes has power to 7800 so I have to look into that but I think it might be the 2.5 year old fuel filter I suppose after I plug my fuel pressure gauge back in I will be able to tell.

it could be the inline fuel filter but you also should check the intank fuel filter
