Arrow No one knows about a '90 TPS??? et al...

The TPS on a 89+ is different than a 86-88.
Does anyone know what pins on the 6 pin connector to test using the ohm method?? I want to set it, and I want to see if there are any bad spikes on it. The car has a prety rough on-off accell/decel during cruising... can't see it being anything else....

Also, does anyone know what could be the cause of a low rpm stumble?? If I hit the gas hard between 1000-2000rpms it will stumble for a split second (about .25-.5 sec) , then be fine, if I press the pedal slower, it's alright, only when I hit it hard. (any gear, but only that rpm range) My entire ignition system is brand new...so is the fuel filter.

Any ideas????

Look at the pin like this...

1-2-3
4-5-6

I haven't done this in a while, so there's a couple things I'm not certain about...

Okay, if you touch connectors 1 and 6 you will get either a reading near 1.0 or near 4.0 at closed throttle. If 1 and 6 give you ~1 then 3 and 4 will give you ~4 and vice versa.

You'll notice that if you touch either 1 and 6 or 3 and 4 (if the closed throttle reading is ~1) at closed throttle and then you push in the plunger or open the throttle it will increase a little at a time to ~4.

If the closed throttle reading is ~4 when you touch the connectors you'll notice it go down to ~1 when you close the throttle.

I've found that the best way to adjust this, assuming the car is warm, the thermovalve isn't malfunctioning, and the rest of the linkages are adjusted correctly is to match one pair at closed throttle and the other pair at wide open throttle to the same number.

So if at closed throttle 1 and 6 show a .97 make 3 and 4 read .97 at wide open throttle. It'll take a few adjustments to get it perfect.

I'm sorry if that was confusing, hope you figure it out.

had same problem

Sounds like the same thing that happened to me.If I let off on the gas the car would climb but if I hammered it ....hesitation.TURNED OUT TO A FAULTY INJECTOR.Hope this might help.

How did you find the faulty injector?? Test resistance?
Oh, thank MYKL, for the pin ID info. I'll try it tomorrow.....

Here is a simple way to test and/or adjust the narrow range TPS on a 89+ car. Looking at MYKL's pinout, turn on the ignition on a warmed-up engine. Connect a DVM to pin 1, the other side to a good ground. If the voltage is not 1.0 Volts, adjust. If it is, slowly rotate the throttle open to about half way. The voltage should linearly increase to above 4 volts, without any jumps to 0 or 5 volts along the way. Oh yes, in case this isn't clear, DO NOT disconnect anything to do this check. Makes it even easier, don't it? Have fun!
