cold air intake on a TII

Would a cold air intake be a good mod for a TII? Something similiar to an AEM where you have tubing extending all the way to the front of the car with a filter on the end? I've never seen one for a TII and was wondering if the long intake tubing might not be efficient for a turbo.

A cool air box will reduce the intake temp. How to get the air is the question. Some remove the FTP lense and route air to it over the front frame rail. Some use the stock tube across the fan shroud, remove the plastic piece in front by the relays, and mount a plate at a 45 degree angle to direct air up through the grill. I have a headlight duct. All will work.

Look on page 3 of this (2nd gen specific). There is a post for pictures of FC's. On the last page is a picture of my intake and cool air box.

I was considering making a cold air box, but am now considering having a pipe made that would extend to the front of the car, like the AEM cold air. There's a rotary shop down here that will be selling one that sticks the cone filter right down behind the front spoiler. Nothing but cold air outside of the engine bay. They already make them for NA's but I was wondering if this would be good for a TII? Basically, I was just curious if the long intake would pose any sort of problem like maybe turbo lag or something? Thanks.

Hey chance, waht's the name of that company again? I might go to Sacramento next week to pick up one. I heard they make them really nice.

Woop - just got my cold air box, K&N filter, & stamped headlight cover (air scoop) in from Mariah Motorsports today.

The quality looks great so far. It's made out of fiberglass that can be painted to match the car (vs the cheapa$$ looking aluminum flashing some people use).

They did a great job on the cold air headlight scoop - nice & primered and the stamp is re-inforced. Note it's actually a mazda headlight cover stamped, not a headlight replacement.

Also got one of the cooling panels from aerodyne in (goes above the radiator between the headlights).

I think to use the cooling panel your suppose to take out the rubber air intake seals in the hood so air goes in straight instead of zig/zagging through the intake maze. That's all pre-airbox. I think the intake maze is to prevent large particles from reaching the filter box. Since there is no 4"x3" hole for the air to pass through in the cooling panel, I'm assuming you have to remove the hood & lower air seals (part of the zig/zag maze).

Pics soon for everyone

Yeah, they look real nice and perfect fit too. It's from Checkpoint Motors/Mazda Specialists. I think I'm going to get one too.

Yeah except it's a 1 piece design now (at least for the 89-91s). You could probably adapt it for most performance intakes.

I think I paid $300 for the intake, stamped headlight, and box. Seems like it was ~$120 or less for the box.
