No Mufflers?

So a couple weeks ago I had J&H Racing make a pipe w/ pre silencer for me to replace my cats because they were starting to rust and what not. They did a great job but told me my mufflers had also seen better days. Well yesterday I just installed new plugs and wire and when I was taking it for a test run my driver side muffler broke away from the rest of the exhaust. Now it actually sounds better, a lot lower in tone than with the stock muffler, but it is a **** ton louder. So I was thinking instead of getting new mufflers ($$) I could just get them to make another piece of pipe to replace the mufflers. Does anyone do this or does it just get way too loud after a while. If you don't think it’s a good idea what kind of mufflers would you recommend. I would love to get the racing beats but $220 for each is quite a bit. Also, I would like to keep near the stock tip size; I don't like the big tips of the N1s and other rice looking mufflers.

do you have a TII or NA? Going no muffs is a bad Idea imo. It would be incredibly loud at WOT and since youlive in the states you run the risk of getting caught under the sound by laws (not to sure if its in your state or not) If you want a muffler that looks close to stock then the RB's are the way to go, they also sound great too. Just don't get anything that uses glass pack stlye insulation or you'll end up having to replace them soon (especially turbo)

I have had cheap glass pack bombs for over a year on a 91 NA. They do OK way in the back where the exhaust is cooler.
Check the sound bite in my sig.

ok I guess just don't use glass packs as your resonator/pre muffler

Nice car and all, but your pictures are chopped off and for me . I wudnt run no mufflers if i were you, especially if you live in the US. Some of the states are becoming quite strict with the exhaust and not to mention emissions

It is a NA and I live in Indiana where there are no emmissions and cops don't really mind alll that much for a loud exhaust (from what i've seen). What i'm asking is if it would be annoyingly loud to me, **** everyone else.

My setup is all cheap stuff - all welded up ($300 parts & labor) at my local muffler shop.
Dual header kit - (Mazdatrix w/RB flange)
dual $20 "turbo pack" presilencers
dual $20 glass pack bomb mufflers (stock tips welded on)
- And yes the bombs hold up OK out on the end of the pipes where the exhaust is cooler. It's not too loud cruising at light throttle. The sound bite is in my sig.
Crude - but effective..

crude?? hell, that sounds like the way to go!! What did that RB header run? and everything esle came from the muffler shop? I would maybe go with a different set of mufflers, but I wouldn't change anything else!! and it runs the same route as the stock single pipe does from front to back?

If you have the extra $100, the RB plated header is much better built & finished.
This was the Mazdatrix header kit (2 flanges and 4 tubing pieces) for around $80.
I cut up the old exhaust with a sawsall & saved the tips, Y-pipe, & flanges to keep the hangers and to make maintenance easier later.

I should mention that those silencers are just a fat pipe with the inlet & outlet tubes passing each other inside.
They aint much, but without them it's WAY too LOUD.
