no more water in the FTPs ..bake the bitch
well i was putting on my s5 bumper today . i was trying to make everything look good.. BUT you know those lovely FTPs. well i drilled a 1/8th inch hole in the bottom.
I also drilled the rubber nipple hole.... then preheated the oven to 200 degrees... SAY WAAAAAAAAAAAH? thats right the oven im known for my unorthodoxed methods.. in everything i do. put the **** in the oven at 200 degrees in a frying pan on the top shelf with the FTP sitting upright like they do in the car..... then check it at 5 minutes by rattling the pan making sure your oven isnt off on temp (more than 200 and its slowly melting your lense). then let the **** sit for 15 minutes. if it fogs when you take it out that means there is still water in there 15 minutes should be enough for all the water to come out.. i kept putting it in and pulling it out at 5 minutes to see if the water was leaving thats how i came up with 15minutes. seal the holes(when colD) put in on your car and be happy. WARNING : i didnt have **** to do with you burning your **** ..chuckle i said 200 NOT 350.450 .. or self clean

as the president of the hateration nation that is pet peeve number 14,170 taking out the FTP for cold air... gotta keep those sealed beams nice and cool when they are turned off.. no matter who you are i always tell people to put them back in "Nice car, but where are your FTPs you need FTPs you should get some in there." makes the car looke like the bumper is on upside down,, or riced out.. or missing something. .. or a piece mobile ... when i bought my car it didnt have them the following day i drove 175 miles to my parts car just to get my lenses.. (had to get my circle tails too)

how about the 1000hp supras and skylines that do that. what ricers.
what about people who cut their bumpers to get more air for their intercooler? a few of my friends have cut their bumpers like that, one had a half bridged turbo 2, and the other has a jumbo streetport t70 turbo ii putting out 450rwhp on low booost........damn ricers
just because they made their car look not 100% stock to try and add some cold air is no reason to hate so much just because you dont like it. especially when its for function

Do the aforementioned Supras and Skylines really need to remove their headlights to get 1000 hp tho? I mean I'm sure there is a less ugly way to get that cold air but hey, maybe I'm wrong.

just so youre aware.. when i was doing headlights, we would do this same trick before resealing the box. while its still hot. also if youre really hardcore, you can find a way to hide a packet of silica gel in there.

I have a couple of comments on the above BAKING PROCEDURE...
#1) Drill the hole in the TOP of the FTP, not the bottom, that way you can't see the hole when you put it back together. Also, water tends to collect at the bottom of the FTP socket...one less hole is one less chance for a leak.
#2) There is no need to use the oven. A hair dryer works great and there is less of a fire hazzard. Same rules apply: When you remove the heat and it fogs up again, you're not done.
#3) Replace the silicone around the lens!!! If you want this job to last, remove the old silicone and put a new seal around it. Also seal the hole that you drilled. This is how water got in there in the first place.
#4) Buffing the lens with a high speed buffer will remove oxidation and that ugly yellow color. If your clear coat is peeling, remove it completely and respray with a can.
I did this about 5-6 years ago and they still look great. No fogging.
