I made these into a CorkSport Border II replica front bumper by cutting out the FTP sections and making a slight recessed lip for the plexiglass to sit down into, keeping the glass flush with the bumper surface rather than on top of it. The top/air vent section is made from the original metal popup headlight lids that I cut, bent and molded onto some fiberglass housings that I made.

After that I took some Audi A4 HID headlights that my freind who works at a body shop gave me. removed the light modules and inserted them into my housings. They are attached to some aluminum brackets with 3 screws each and have springs so that I can adjust them 3 ways like stock headlights. The high beams (round ones) were the HID ones and since I don't have the money for that kind of setup I dremeled them to accept H7 bulbs. All 4 bulbs are 5200k/100watts of course.

The covers are plexiglass that I painted the edges of to hide the gaskets and they are attached with some panhead hex screws that go into aluminum brackets molded inside the fiberglass housings. They are pretty strong, the plexiglass is not heat molded yet, but is simply pulled down by the screws only.

Another advantage to this is that with all the extra motors, brackets, arms, etc. that I removed the car probably weights about 10-15 lbs. less overall.

What do you think? I have another set of RE Aemimya copies that I had 90% finished that would have used some 3"round H3 fog lamps as lights, but when I seen these Audi lights I started a new set to use them instead.

Please don't flame the rough edges, this is just the first day I ever had them on the car, they are not perfect yet and I am planning on doing some finishing touches. I also plan on molding in some round foglights into the front bumper.

I thought about that but to be honest it was a PIA to make these and if I did it again I would have to find a way to make a mold totally out of fiberglass to do it. Plus the Audi light modules were a one time deal, they cost about $1000 EACH! My freind said that the insurance company changes them if the brackets are broken and that is all that was wrong with these, they were like 99% fine before I cut them apart for my project.

Thank God for insurance, I told him to save me any cool looking lights he replaces in the future.

Don't let the rough looks fool you, I am doing a lot to the car and plan to paint it silver in the next month or so, when it is done they will look OEM to anyone who is not an RX expert. This is why I have not said a word while making them, if you would have seen early pictures you would'nt believe these.

P.S. the camera flash reveals a lot, if you see them live you cannot see the mounting screws or any of the stuff inside the housing very well except the chrome lights, in the day time or at night.

That is going to look awsome when it is all cleaned up/finished up/painted. The actual lights are soooo much better than what come in the real RE kit in looks and probably performance as well.

I really would love to but don't have the time or resources to make more of these. Also this is the first time I ever tried to make something from fiberglass, so I am no expert by any means. I may try to make a mold of the main housing, if I could do that then I would sell them with no lights giving people the choice of whatever lights they want and keeping it cheap enough for many to enjoy. I only built these because I was DISGUSTED at the cost of the RE Aemimya bumper that runs about $1200 plus shipping from Japan. Besides the cost of the CorkSport body kit, these cost me about $40 including several scrapped attempts using different materials, and other ideas.

This is the first type that is almost an exact copy of the RE Aemimya type that uses H3 foglights, it is also made totally of fiberglass material over some cardboard and plastic pipes.

The smooth molded style of these were twice as hard to make as the ones above.

They have 100 watt bulbs and are bright as hell. But I have to admit the high beams are kind of odd. they help you see far off but they are not very bright, probably due to the fact that they were designed for true H.I.D. bulbs and not the H7's I put in them. I may hook up a relay so that high beam will use all 4 instead of low or high only and see how I like it, for the round bulb one that is what I was going to do anyway.

They look like something people would mass produce.

The lights seem a little odd though. maybe it's the color black and absence of light but they look like they don't fill up the space. making it look a little void.

DAMN! I wish I had a friend that could get a hold of Audi lights. I must say that is some nice fabrication. Makes me want to try something like that now.

Go by a busy body shop that works on nice, new cars and buddy up with the guy a little. They throw out cracked housings all the time, most only have bad scratches on the front glass and are otherwise perfect, all you need is the inner lamp assembly anyway.

Nice job!! I'm sure if you fab'd all this up you can come up with some kind of cover inside to hide the screws etc... completely. Even some sheetmetal cut and painted flat black with some allen screws or something would look really trick. It's always cool to see some ingenuity and the ***** to rip apart some of their car post pics when its painted!!!!!

I really don't need the screws covered, without a camera flash all the uglies are invisible, even in daylight. As for the silver screws around the black edged light cover, I want them to show, it looks kind of cool IMO. BTW I cut up this bumper fresh out the box new, that was scary, to gash through a brand new CorkSport bumper, but hey if you want an omlette........
