No job, college, light funds, 2 cars, lots of S4/S5 TII parts... what to do?

I recently tore down the S5 engine that was in the 87 TII (never ran due to wiring issue) and the rear iron, and rear rotor is trash due to a failed E shaft bearing in the rear iron.

funds are tight, i would love to rebuild it with a street port and lots of other things but i don't see that happening anytime soon... Now my 91 vert (the center of the project) is a well running 152,*** mile daily and my plan today is a compression test to see if the engine would be a decent candidate for a 6port turbo setup.

If i go that route i can see myself affording all needed gaskets, rebuild the S5 turbo, and 2.0 rtek, gauges ect.... by parting out/selling everything else and keeping the TII driveline.
I have a full personal shop with nearly everything at my disposal so fabrication, heavy lifting, tools... can all be done.
decent idea? im really anxious to go turbo by the end of the summer.

Thanks.

Drive your vert as is and save the t2 engine for a project later in life! If you dive into that right now, the list of things you will need or want will never end.

Just do what every other American does, get a credit card and run up a debit that you won't be able to repay.

just daily drive the n/a, turboing it will wind up costing you more than you think it will, especially if you screw it up and wind up popping your only running motor.

so my advice is, don't be dumb and go looking for more power if you can't afford it right now.

even the most experienced with RX7s can overlook something minor with a turbo and wind up with a brick of a motor, at least with the non turbo it is forgiving.

Being broke, in college and having your car broken is a prescription for screwing up your life. Nothing is more important than staying focused on your education, certainly not having a hot-rodded car.

Drive your Vert as-is. It is cool panty-dropper. Enjoy the ride. Finish college, get a job, start your real life.

Then, do what you want on a budget that is based on your income, not your hopes and wishes.

Good Luck!

Not much to look forward to in the US, i went to college, got certified in welding, and diesel engines, couldnt hold a job due to companies downsizing and or the job was horrible. **** hit the fan worked construction, got hurt. So i went back to school now im in machining, Ive always had projects, not my only one and ive done numerous builds on tight budgets. Now i wont be attending school during the summer so this gives be time for job hunting and get some funds. But for now im working on other peoples projects for some spending money.

Since most of you lack faith, well **** you give me nothing to look forward to, besides having a pile of parts unused, might as well sell the loot and go a different direction.

PS i have 4 other means of transportation...

you asked for opinions on what to do, if you have other functioning vehicles that you know are more reliable than the FC and know that you have everything on hand to do the project then don't let anyone stop you from doing it.

but take a step back and look at what you asked and put yourself in an outside perspective. doing a turbo swap almost always runs into issues here or there, costing you money, lets face it when i tear apart an engine almost always some parts break and i have to replace fuel lines, hoses, belts, filters, coolant, etc, etc, etc.

so you have no income and want to tear apart the car which is already a bad idea, next you want to put a turbo on it which is the second bad idea.

if you had money set aside to cover those things i would say sure, go ahead. but you asked for advice about doing an upgrade above simple maintenance/repairs. the answers you got are for your benefit, not ours. if you're really determined, sell one of the 4 other vehicles, because registration+ insurance on 4 vehicles has got to hurt in and of itself anyways. if they're not registered, well that there is another thing that costs money to get done so stop kidding yourself.

worse came to worse and you had to sell your vehicles to buy food, at least a running 7 is worth over 2 times what a non running one is.

I respect those opinions and i came off as being an *** but i was just put off. "Oh here comes another half wit noob that doesn't have a clue." and i was kinda cranky... I'm all about doing it right the first time thats if, the engine i got was in decent shape and didn't have to replace hard parts. Now i got all this crap and i feel like if been kicked in the *****. I got all the stuff cheap and im still not in the "red" for what is usable/able to sell.

Most of you all are right, I am in the wrong. I just have to suck it up and buy parts piece by piece over the next year and hope i have money left over for gas. Maybe i will bolt all the TII stuff that is useful drive train wise over the summer and start building the engine over the winter.

Maybe drag racing my drag bike will keep me from being depressed lol.

PS: Im still quite young and live with my parents, I am not living off the government, and I refuse to get unemployment for my past lay offs.
