No Idle still.. what next?

Allright here goes..

Checked for vacuum leaks
New fuel filter
New fuel lines
New fuel injectors (low imp with 10ohm resistors wired in)
Good used TPS

I jumpered the fuel jumper and i can hear alot of fuel flowing past the regulator. Could it be bad?

Anyway the car starts, goes to 3000 rpm for a few seconds (when cold) then just drops down and dies. runs ok if i give it a little gas though.

Even if i turnt eh idle speed up it runs very rough at 1500rpm.

Any ideas?

Lol, don't hate me for asking, but you're absolutely sure the MAFsensor is plugged in, right? This sounds exactly like what happens when it's not plugged in... or it could possibly have gone bad. You could try someone else's to find out for sure.

No codes?

That rules out some things...Usually I would say water-thermo sensor. But if thats unplugged or malfunctioning, your ECU should have picked it up..

I am gonna have to defer to the S5 gods on this one, but idle speed is usually controlled by the BAC, the TPS, then you have the Air mix, and the timing...

And your pressure regulator will ALWAYS sound like fuel is rushing past it. The regulator is stepping your 80 PSI pump down to about 30, even at idle.

Rat

*edit* How did this whole idle thing start? Did you work on the car? Was it gradual? How does it run when its warmed up?

I think the CPU might be fried since ht last owner ran low imp injectors on this high imp car (1988)

The car had NUMEROUS problems before i rebuilt the engine. ran horrid rich on only 1 rotor, stalled, bucked like crazy, started hard, smelt like gas, etcetc

The idle isnt so much the problem i guess, i can get it to idle at 1300 rpm or so. the problem is at that speed the engine is jerking wildly and wanting to die. If ya know what im saying

When its warm , it still runs the same, but it starts alot easier.

I dunno if it might be the timing since i cant even time it with the jumpy idle it has.

The jerking and bucking could be caused by bad wires. Either the wires to the plugs or the wires on the harness that go to the injectors. If the bucking is consistent at around 3800 rpms it's probably the secondary injector wires.

SOunds like it may be time to grab a multimeter, and an FSM and dig in. With that being a recently rebuilt motor and all, there may also be a good possibility of a vacuum leak.

Did you index the CAS when you rebuilt the motor? Mine was a little tricky to line up (actually I just did a crappy job of lining it up the first time) and exhibited some of the symptoms you are describing.

I lined up it up like the manual says.

I know i read somewhere that theres a littel trick to getting it almost dead on.. know how?

Im thinking it could be my timing too for various reason, but i dunno how to time it any better since i cant get it to idle at below 1000.

Line up the first mark on the pulley with the indicator.

Pull the cas. Take the top cover off. Just two screws.

Align the marks on the bottom of the cas. Hold that position.

Now look in the top of the cas. The shaft and gears move if turned. The body does not. Pick a tooth on any gear and note a spot on the body opposite it.

With the marks on the bottom of the cas alinged, put it in the engine.

Look in the top of the cas. Is the tooth you picked out earlier still aligned with the spot (place) that it was aligned with earlier???

If the answer is NO, then move the body of the cas until the marks are aligned again. Now bolt down the cas.

It sounds like your cars timing might be tooooo far advanced right now. Could be something else.

I think it might be too.

When i start the car, when the engine catches it sounds almost like its trying to turn backwards... feels like the starter almost stops lol

Advanaced sounds right
