Exclamation No fuel No spark ---- PLZ HELP

Okay well I just got done removing and installing my oil pan and front cover (the front cover o-ring was pinched) so I fixed my oil pressure problem, but yet another problem occurs, I just love working on cars :P.

Any who when i was removing my alternator i forgot to take the neg off the battery, and the power wire that goes to the alternator grounded out on the intercooler braket, DOH, so I put everything back together and try to start the car and I keep blowing the 40A EGI fuse, causing No fuel or spark to get in the engine, I suck at reading wiring diagrams.

Also the wiring harness ground is bolted to the intercooler bracket, making me think horrid thought and input is greatly appreciated

well, you got a short somewhere. And thats going to be a pain in the *** to find. The EGI fuse is going to control things like the fuel pump, injectors, etc. And it does tie into the ECU.

2 things you can do here.

A: the smart way, find someone that knows electrics and can help you read the diagram.

B: the dumb way. jumper the fuse block with solid metal, look for the smoke. Smoke = your short.

Wish I could be more help, I can dig into the schematics when I get home (I am an avionics technician by trade), and I know HAILERS practically sleeps with FC wiring diagrams. Maybe he will chime in soon.

Oooops. Error. I'll think about it before I write next time. Later.

HERE: https://www.rx7club.com/forum/attach...postid=1398836

So you see the 40 amp goes thru the MAIN RELAY that lies under/next to the Trail coil assy. Well, after the Main Relay pulls in, it feeds the Coils but what is not seen in the picture is that it also feeds every solenoid on that rack on the engine plus the two solenoids on the acv. Where to start, whar to start. How about going to the Main RElay and pulling the plug off it that has four sockets (there are two plugs on the Main Relay). Then put the fuse in and turn the key to ON. Shouldn't pop. Heck, its only going from the fuse box to the Main Relay.

So it probably did not pop. REconnect it, the main relay that is. Now disconnect each solenoid on the engine. Color coded so its easy. Also go to the acv and disconnect the two plugs that go to the two solenoids. Turn the key to ON. No pop? Good. Pop? Bad. Food good, fire bad. That's what mom taught me anyway. So now the humor is over. Write back as to what happened. Hey, it's my lunch hour. Gotta go pig out.

Sorry about the total misinformation of the above post. I tried to delete it but it did not work. I walked away from the computer while the site was stalled out. I was at work then. Not now.

The 40 amp fuse passes thru the Main Relay, then goes and feeds the coils then it feeds the fuel injectors.

I'd disconnect the four socket plug at the Main Relay and see if the fuse still pops. If it does then disconnect the alternator and see if it still pops.

If the fuse does not pop when the four socket plug at the Main Relay is pulled and the key is to ON, then I'd disconnect the plugs to the coil assy and see if the fuse still pops. If it does not pop, suspect one of the coil assy or the wiring to them.

If the fuse did pop with the coil assy disconnected, then I'd suspect the wiring to the fuel injectors. Its a Black/yellow wire from the Main Relay to the items mentioned.

I'd guess the short is somewhere B/T the Main Relay and the alternator/battery/engine fuse box.

Again, sorry about the misinformation in the first post. By the way, the wiring schematics for the 88 model are at http://www.iluvmyrx7.com a free site for a download. Download the wiring diagrams to your hard drive. You don't have to download the whole manual. See or download page 59-22 of the wiring diagrams. Good luck.

Your cars wiring is similar to this https://www.rx7club.com/forum/attach...postid=1398836 although this jpg does not show the wiring to the fuel injectors (probably not the cause anyway). Just look at the 40amp fuse and see how the wiring goes from there to the Main Relay, passes thru the Main Relay if its pulled in, goes to the coil assy's and then goes to the fuel injectors (not shown in jpg). The full schematic is available at the site/page I mentioned earlier.
