No filter on air pump? What will it do?
I am ordering my intake cone filter & still have my cats so I need my airpump. I know people say you need a small filter for the airpump but do I really need it? I mean what else does the air pump supply air to besides the cats? I don't feel like waisting $25 for a filter that I will only use for a very short amount of time until I get rid of my cats. Thanks.

it should be fine, ive had mine like taht for a long time. instead of wasting money for a filter, you could just get some metal screen and tighten it down hard with a clamp. this wouuld prevent from anything getting in there. you dont even need to do that. spend that money on some spark plugs or somethng

I would put something there!! if something goes through it'll either screw up the airpump ($$$), or if it goes through the airpump and ACV into your rear port. it'll go through and f*ck the turbo... I'm sure you can find a cheap filter for a few dollars.

I just did the cone conversion and found that one of the standard little crankcase filters from Canadian Tire for $4.95 fitted the hose without an adapter and seems to work just great. Looks like a little flat disc with two input/output pipes, one small and one large - the large one is a perfect fit in the air pump input hose.

If you still have the ACV on your motor,a fair volume of air from the air pump is sucked into the manifold on deceleration through the anti-afterburn valve. But by all means forgo the $8 filter so you can buy another motor when you suck rocks!

Thats all I was looking for, some reason that I really need a filter. Thanks. I will look at autozone, did they have it in stock? Do you remember what size it was? Thanks.

It was just sitting on a hook where all the newly carried ricer stuff is. You know, above the euro lights, next to the strobe light shift ****, across from the glow in the dark pedals, and below the dash neons.

In a pinch, you could probably take that hose that used to run to your airbox, and put some pantyhose over the end of it, and rubber band it on.. Maybe double or triple it up..
Make sure the hose isn't going to interfere with the belts..

If you have a 89+ NA FC, I would highly recommand using a nice air filter for the air pump. 3 months ago, I replaced my air box for a cone air filter and I went to canadian tires to get a breather for the air pump. It worked good for a month before I started having hesitations at +6k RPM. I couldn't figure out what it was. The engine was new, ignition was good, new fuel filter. I just drove with it up until last week. I live in a construction area where there is a lot of crap flying around. I cleaned the cone filter and looked at the breather. That thing was full of crap. So I drove without the filter for a day. Got on the highway going to work and I had to pass a car. Floored it, it went smoothly up to redline. I was like wow. That's when it hit me. My 6-ports are actuated with the air pump, if the air pump is not getting enough air (clotted filter/bad pump) then the ports won't open probably. From that day on, I got a K&N filter ($15) for the air pump and it was all good. hesitation gone.

The air pump's internals are made out of a phenolic type material. Any grit that gets in there will quickly ruin it. If you are going to run the air pump to actuate your aux ports then you need to protect its intake.
As the others said, a filter of some sort is available. Most of the better parts stores will have an experienced person behind the counter. Just tell him or her what size hose you have on the air pump intake and they will probably have an idea or two for a filter that will work. Some of the older model American cars had an air filter located on the edge of the air cleaner housing intended for the PCV system. This filter will be very close to what you are needing.

does a STOCK Turbo II come with an air filter on the air pump, or is it part of the STOCK air filtration system and will only need to be purchased if going to open cone type filter...?
