No EGR PORTS??????

Hi all.. 88 n/a centre casting has no egr ports!!! could this possibly be an S5 block with all S4 components???? I know this is the second engine in it, but not sure if it's really an S4 block, Is there any way to find out???? Could this 'cause a poor idle??? I'm really confussed, I have the haynes manual, but it doesn't seem to help!!!
Thanx in advance

This should be easy. Question: does the intermediate housing have an EGR on the top of it the housing or not? It's that simple.

it could be an S4 engine that was rebuilt with an S5 intermediate iron. if the rotor housings do not have a threaded boss above the trailing plugs then they are S4 rotor housings, if they do then it probably is a complete S5 engine.

there is no such thing as a Jspec n/a engine so either someone swapped out your motor with an S5 or they rebuilt it with varying parts.

Is the S5 basically like the S4? I have yet to see the S5 block, but was pretty sure the n/a's have the egr on the center plate, and the Tii has the egr on the rear of the LIM.

Thanks for the clarification on that karack, cause I had no idea,ya learn something new every day,if not your dead. I'm curious as to what kind of mix he has under his hood. yes there are some subtle diff between s4 and s5 blocks mainly with the egr ports,I dont think the port in center cast iron under primary ports is there on a s5 block either

Thnx for the quick replies!!! There are threaded wholes above the trailing plugs, so I'm gonna say it's an S5 block!!! Thank u!!! I looked around to see where vac hoses went to try and find the egr but vac lines are all capped off!!! From what I can tell, from my limited knowledge, evrything else is S4!!! I think!!!
Should I replace evrything with S5 components to match the block??? I have a lead on an 89 really cheap, sub frames toast I was told!!!! Although at that point I may as well just swap the whole motor eh????
Thnx again!!

The gas for an EGR valve comes from the ROTOR HOUSING holes, below the exaust ports.. One of the two that are at the bottom of the rotor housing. That's why the exaust gasket has that one half inch hole in it. Talking series four car.

in his case his S5 motor does not have a EGR port on the center iron so you are SOL if you need it for emissions, not much you can do for that aside lay one on there and hope the smog guy doesn't test it for functionality.

for reference, S5 models did not have EGR at all so your motor cannot be made to accept one.

Would not haveing an egr valve in conjunction with ALL other S4 components, cause problems running?? I mean would it mess with the functionality of any of the other sensors, valves, and/or solinoids??? 'cause the solinoid for it is still plugged in, therefore wouldn't the CU be relying on a signal of some sort??
Sorry for asking what could be considered obvious questions!!
Thanx again for the comments and direction!!!

For what it's worth, I blocked off my EGR on my S4 and it hasn't affected anything.

Does this engine of your have the VDI on the intake manifold????? Know what a VDI is? IF not I'll jpg a dwg of one. It seems to me you need to know one way or the other.

I believe it's NOT a VDI, 'cause on the VDI(S5) the BACV is located on the passenger side, where as on just the normal dynamic chamber(S4) it's located on the driver side!!!
Does this make a big difference??? Not having the S5 VDI as appose to the S4 DC??
Thnx again
