just bought an 88 rx7 and the car won't start at all...when we turn the key it doesn't make any sounds and theres no power unless we hook it up with a different battery...I know it could be a wide range of problems but anyone give me a list of what could be wrong ? I just ordered a used starter from the junk yard so until that comes is there any other things i can try?

also..

the car has been stored for 4 years and hasn't been run since...what would i need to do to bring her back to life?

Why is it.. ALWAYS, when someone's car wont start, or even turn over they think it's the starter? The starter is a motor, designed to turn your flywheel fast enough to get your E-shaft spinning to build compression to start the engine itself.. Here is a list of thing's

Dead Battery, Loose battery connections, loose wire going to starter.. do your lights come on when you turn the key to Acc - On??
i know it's dumb to ask, but your batt isnt dead is it?

Have you tried jumping it? Check all the things he said aswell, and your motor may be carbon locked. Since it has been sitting 4 years it probably is. Ssearch for ATF treatment and you should find a few things that will help.

Jack the car up. Put it in neutral. Find the starter. It has a very small wire attached to a blade connector on the startere solenoid. Take that wire off. Get a screwdriver and make contact with the small blade on the starter and the very large wire, using the screwdriver (apiece of large gauge wire bare at each end will also do). The starter should be turning over as you do that, and if you left your car in gear, your headed for the hospital or morgue now.

Do the above. To change out your new/wreck yard starter you have to get under there anyway. Find out today.

IF the starter does not make a sound or if the starter cranks the engine over, let us know.

 

well believe it or not if the terminal are not shiny where they make contact between eachother then there won't be a good connection...I can't tell you how many times this has been a problem of mine...It will usually happen after a dry spell when the rain comes in the humidity goes up and for some reason the moisture gets between the terminals and causes them have a bad connection...try to clean your terminals and see if that fixes it...if not check the starter connection and fuses!!

 

my car does something like that, i drive it everyday and it runs good, just sometimes it doesnt crank(if i push start it, it runs), i think its either the neutral safety switch or.. the starter... my battery is new and charged.... any suggestions, i tried searching
