NJ Emmissions...Help.

I have a 91 vert with a freshly rebuilt engine. My question is whether or not this will pass NJ emmisions with a street port and a free flow exhaust? I want to put a header and presilencer on, but I don't know whether I should do it while the engine is being installed or wait until after it passes emissions (to save me $75 or so and a headache) to install the header/presilencer. Any ideas? The only reason I would wait to put them on is if I would definitely pass an emissions test with just the street port and exhaust. Thanks for your help...

hmmm, when you say streetport and exhaust, do you still have a cat in there? if you're taking it to a state run place (free) they would never pass you. and if you had a header on i'm not sure you'd pass visual inspection either (depending on how "motor oriented" the person is) the woman that did my n/a wrote down it was a 4-cyl!

last time i took my 91 n/a i passed with intake, Bonez superflow Cat, and Apexi N1 catback...WITH silencer in place. my friend took his probe GT with a small exhaust leak and they failed him for being too loud. so i dunno how loud your car is with exhaust and a street port. i'd guess louder than mine...

...but these situations have all taken place at the state run places with the rollers and *****. i dunno how a private shop does emissions and stuff...good luck...

I would do the exhaust work after the inspection...unless there is a way to avoid an inspection. The Cats are necessary to pass the test.
