Question newer engine swap

i have a 1987 rx-7 and i looked up the vin and it is supposed to be a turbo model but the intercooler and turbo are gone and the hood and mirrors are of the regular model. the exust is the turbo version and that seems to be it. i want to possably swap this motor with one of th 3rd gen motors but do not know if it will fit and if it is worth doing. i need some advice please.

If you're using some of the online resources to decode the VIN, they are wrong.

If it's a North American model, the definitive way to check if it's a turbo or not through the VIN is...

JM1FC331... = non-turbo
JM1FC332... = turbo
