:raises hand: Hi, my name is Colby F. and :sigh: I did the atf trick. I'm now trying to clean up my act by rebuilding my engine, after shooting her up with the red goo, and destroying one of her precious oil seals. :sits down:

"Thank you Colby, the first step to recovery is admitting you have a problem; you've just got to take it one day at a time... now, let's continue with our A.T.F.A. meeting...."

Synthetic is unadvised only if is the type that is made not to burn, and is used in an engine with a functioning Oil Metering Pump.

The Turbo is also known as a TII ( Not because there are 2 turbos, but because there was a turbo before the TII made in Japan )

Otherwise, good job!
Yeah, I remember the not twin turbo thing, I guess I forgot to put it in there though. Thanks for the S5 info too.

this thing you people call 'search' really works! amazing!

This is my first relevant post (aka not in the Lounge ) on the forum

I came across a listing of a 91 N/A for sell in my area, called the seller, and will be checking it out sometime next week. Hopefully the car will be in good enough shape for me to become a rotorhead

anyways, after doing a search in the 2nd gen section and reading all the intro and buying info (which saved me many keystrokes from repeating questions and getting noob flamed), I was wondering, how much will a compression check cost at the dealer, and should I ask the seller to do it and then show me the test results?

Just sold a 91 and I wouldn't have paid for a compression test. I hear a dealer will charge $90 - no first hand knowledge though.

Racing beat recommends synthetic oils like royal purple. They say it acctually increased performance. They base this on years of testing with synthetic oils which yielded them better performance and cleaner engines. I dont know if that is true but it sure is interesting.

They say it may effect your engine if you have been using mineral oils for a long period of time and then switch over to synthetic. They also say for breaking in a new engine use mineral oil for about 1500 miles then switch over to synthetic. For these reasons, this is why they believe Mazda put the warning about not using synthetics, too confusing to the public maybe.

Re: Newbies, this thread is for you.

The GXL models (luxury) saw an autoadjust suspension, thought by many to be worthless.
My wheels thank me very much that I have AAS. The only thing that's keeping me from a set of tokico 5-ways is my wallet.

The Mazda dealership that is repairing my Rex right now told me about 60 bucks to do a compression test.

literally zenki means "early era" and Kouki means "late era" hehe learned that from my AE86's

btw, great informative post. I am looking to trade off an eight-six for a TII and was looking for some of the common problems to look for (even though I already know this one has blown water seals).

Compression gauge is like $20 +/- at Sears... Save yourself the cash that you would pay to a mechanic and start learning the car yourself!

Do a search on "compression check" or grab a manual. People on this forum will help if you have questions.

The RX-7 is a "hands-on" car unless you make big coin - it's best if you start learning as much as you can early on.
