newbie with some minor problems i hope
i just bought my 1987 rx7 yesterday and the guy has had a rebuild done on both the transmission and the engine sop it runs great but there is a oil leak on the right side near the back, i am a little worried about what that may be and how much it will cost to get that fixed, also there is another problem that might not be a problem because i never owned a rx befor but the manual shifter gets very warm when driving for a while i do not know what that would be either? so if anyone can help me in solving what these problems may be and how i can go about getting them fixed please let me know, i love my car and i want it to last forever i just need to get the kinks out of it
Thanks

There is no oil plumbing on the right side of an NA.
Turbos have a hard line to the turbo on the right.
Do you mean the left side? Left & right are usually accoding to the car's left & right while facing forward.
EG: left is the driver's side in the US.
If the oil leak is on the drivers side, it could be:
Oil filter, Oil filter pedestal, oil pressure sensor, or oil cooler supply line.
Just tighten the above, wipe up the mess & see if you got it.
I have a copy of the manuals on-line.
The link is in my sig below.

now are you sure that the shifter is to get that hot , well the sifter doesnt get hat but if i take out the thing next to the ciggerrette lighter and put my hand on the plastic i almost cant touch it afetr 5 seconds,
also on the oil leak in regards to the cars left and right i went outside and looked and it is actually dripping in th middle but that doesnt mean that the leak is in the middle...
i called my mechanic and he said the shifter getting hot could mean that the transmission fluid is running low do you think that could be the case?
thanks for your replys

jack up the front of ur car and figure out exactly where it's coming from. basically ur saying it's coming from somewhere near the engine.....which eliminates only the oil cooler. since this coincides with an excessively hot tranny then I'd be it's leaking from the front of the tranny, which would mean u have a bad front oil seal.

The OMP is the Oil Metering Pump, it supplies oil to the combustion chambers.
Forget everything you might now about normal cumbustion cars...well not everything, but some things.
For one, the apex seals (edge of the rotoros that contain the compression and combustion) require lubrication, this is done by injecting oil into the combustion chamber via the OMP.
If at the front of the car looking back, the OMP is on front of the engine (front cover) on the right side. The Lines go up from there across the top right of the engine. If there's a leek from one of those lines it could be seen as coming from the right side of the engine.
What we need to know is WHERE exactly is it coming from. You need to clean the engine has best you can (i advice using engine degreaser) and follow the line of oil.

It is possible that the oil pan bolts in the right rear corner are just loose. I just had this happen on a 86' NA and a simple clean and re-tighten found and fixed the leak. The motor was just recently rebuilt right?
