Newbie-How do I clean molded interior?

I am sorry to have to admit that I have not driven my 90 GXL regularly for almost three years. The last time I drove it was to the gas station and when I got there my car was smoking so much that men started running over to my car because they were sure it was on fire. I brought it home asked my husband for help and he covered for me and put it away. That was at least a year ago. He hates my car. Three years ago I gave birth to triplets and three babies don't fit in that little car. I now drive a Suburban and I miss my car. It has been under a covered concrete pad in the back of my property. Today I went to visit it and it was fuzzy inside. It is so horrible. It did grow some mold before and I cleaned it with a mixture of rubbing alcohol and water and it worked. But is was not nearly so bad. The seats had seat covers on them and the mold goes all the way through. I bet the foam is also moldy. Do the factory seat covers come off? Before I try anything I wanted to hear from some one who might have had this problem. Is anyone as neglectful as I??? It is a black car with black interior and someone added the 2 + 2 option. I guess it will alway grow mold when it is covered without ventilation. It also won't turn over. Not a battery problem but I have some ideas for that problem.

I doubt anybody on this forum has had experience with taking off the factory seat covers. If some people did, then it'd be rare. My 7 is in another city right now so I can't check for you, but try checking to see if there are zippers or whatnot (doubt it). Since you say that the foam may be moldy, then it would have to be thrown out, along with the seat cover. In that case, just take a knife to the seat (if you plan on keeping the seat and refoaming it). Otherwise, you may need to buy some new or used seats.

humm... mold is pretty destructive. If it did get to the padding inside the seat it will be difficult to clean im not sure if the seat covers can be removed. I think i would be better to buy used ones or maybe go to a car junk yard and find some.

you might have blown a seal in your engine causing the smoke and not running it for a year isn't good. you could try push starting it or use the ATF trick everyone talks about but is sounds like u need a rebiuld. How many miles does your car have?

im sure ppl with more experiance can add further input.

Welcome by the way.

Sitting Car

I sympathize with your problem - my 7's been sitting for two years with a blown engine, but luckily no mold.

I second the vote for X-14, you might also want to search the web (www.google.com) for sources on killing mold - there's been a lot of mold publicity lately so you'll probably find help.

Of course, if you were rich, you could just buy a new engine and interior...

Best of luck
