newbie FC questions
Hello. I have a few questions about the FC and someone told me to post here. 1st question is, which models are turbo? I know the TurboII is, but is there another? 2nd question, I've heard that rotary engines aren't very reliable, is that so? 3rd, what are some things I would have to look for to know something was wrong with the car engine wise? 4th, how do they handle compared to a Nissan S13? 5th, How much horse power does the Turbo and N/A FC have? and 6th, what would be the common price for an FC(including insurance?)

Turbo II is the turbo model. Rotary engines are reliable if you take care of them. Change oil often, watch oil level, don't beat on it. It handles far better than the 240SX. TII (nickname for Turbo II) is: 87-88=180hp new, 89-91=202hp new. N/A....86-88=140hp, 89-91=160hp. I bought my 91 w/ 96k miles on it for $4200 in September of last year.

Well, if you did some searching on the turbo question. It Would be there. 2nd, you must have heard that rotaries are not very realible from one that did not take care of his car. Change the oil and fluids and make sure to take care of it! 3rd. Before you buy the car, get it compression tested, that is a must, check all the normal stuff. 4th well, i dont know about that, but i'm sure it could outhandle that thing. 5th 86-88 N/A has 146 BHP turbo has 180 or so... 89-91 n/a 160, but not as tough. and Turbo 200. 6th, you could find one for oh, that totally depends, in the states i think that insurance is like 1000 a year? over here in canada, it costs me 1600

The SX cars make wonderful show cars to cart around your expensive stereo system, but for SCCA Autocross they are 2 classes below a non-turbo FC, 3 classes below a TII, and 4 classes below an FD. Yes, for maneuvering courses, the stock "upscale" US models of the 200SX and 240SX compete with the likes of the Hyundai Tiburon and Mitsubishi Galant.

Best thing about the rx-7s is the car is 100% designed as a TRUE sports car - not a "sports coupe" or "sports sendan."
The Turbo II is a SUPERCAR and is the tuners DREAM CAR. Mazda designed the car with 450HP in mind but detuned to 200/180 ft-lbs torque. What that means is you can GO NUTS designing a porsche killer for little $$$.
The rotary engine is PERFECT for a sports car. Mazda designed the rx-7 to take 130% advantage of it. That means you get lightweight HIGH OUTPUT performance, UNLIMITED REVING (there's nothing to break), small engine means sweet aerodynamics = low drag. Handlign is the BEST part of the rotary experience. The chassis has rear steer like some porsches, so you can kick some serious butt around the corners. The car handles & drives so well - it inspires you to push the car beyond what you think it's capable of
Best of all, the rx-7s have an international following from tuners, manufacturers, and enthusiest. That means you have a wide selection of performance upgrades, accessories, bodykits, coffeytable books, toy models, and knowlegable people.

Thanks Rico and Vaughnc(you should do mazda commercials dude). I think you guys sold me on an FC.
I have a few more questions. Does the TII come with LSD stock? Also how is the front/rear weight balance? And finally, is the IC front, side or top mount?

LSD stock (it better with that extra heavy duty drivetrain that hanldes 450hp )
50/50 balance & rear steer - mmmmmmm
Standard TMIC (top mount intercooler). A HUGE!!! amount of room for a FMIC though. The last pic above is an upgraded TMIC.
