Newbie FC

Hi, I'm new to the forums and I'm looking into buying a 1987 GXL. It's really clean and clean title. The only downfall is that the engine wont start. I'm guessing since it has 200k+ miles on it, that it's dead. Lol... The person that owns it now hasn't even had it for longer then 6 weeks, and I believe that it's probably been driven to death. What are some common problems with FC's? JW. How much does it usually cost to turn a S4 to an S5 TII? I'm gonna go back and do some more reading now. lol.

Even if you get it for free, it wont take long to have more money in it than what it is worth. Get it as cheap as you can.

How is the body? Is there any rust anywhere?

If the body is straight, I'd see if he'd take $200. Maybe he just wants to get rid of it.

A rebuild from Kevin Landers will run you anywhere from $1600 (if you have him take out/put in the engine) and up. You can find his prices on http://www.rotaryresurrection.com . Seeing that your in Seattle and he's in Tennessee, you might want to find someone closer. Anyhow, those are just some reference prices.

To turn a S4 N/A into a S5 TII will be pretty expensive. It wouldn't be worth it.

Yeah, I'm buying this car as a project, and I want something difficult but impossible. Thanks you guys have provided me with much needed knowledge for the road ahead. lol. I have plenty of time to put into this car so I'm not in much of a hurry. The guy is asking for 700 firm with tow... So I don't think 200 will be a good price for him. I'll try to talk him down, wish me luck lol.

For a non-running car, I don't think 700 is worth it. That's me though.

I picked up 2 cars (non-running) with decent bodies for $200, total. Even got free towing (love AAA).

S5's are a lot harder to find so good luck with that. either way they both wind up costing about the same to build up.

My b/f had a gtu and did a turbo s4 swap i am assuming its the same, you'll need everything from the engine to the drive shaft (having the lsd from the turbo TII is nice also )... they drive shafts are different lengths, is what i have herd and what problems we had... but someone correct me if im wrong....
