Newbie!!!
Hey everyone, this is my first post on this site. I just have some general questions you guys might be able to answer.
I am helping my little bro get his first car and we spotted a 86 rx-7 some guy is selling. He is asking for $500 and it only has 69,000 original miles and its a N/A. The story is that he bought it for parts and does not have to tittle but we are going through the process of recovering it, otherwise I wont buy it. The body is in very good condition, practically rust free. The interior is a pretty messed up in some areas but Im sure I can work at that. The guy told me that it runs and everything but I have not test driven it. I was just wordering what kind of things I should look for when I drive it? Obviously if I see smoke or hear any clunking or noises Ill know something is up. Should I expect the motor to have problems since it has been sitting for a very long time? And are there common problems that come with age or time sitting around.
I have worked on my car alot and believe I have a pretty good general knowlege about cars but Im a little sketchy about the rotory engine. When I looked at it, it looks so simple but I have been hearing mixed things. If anyone can just point me to general knowlege about this rx-7 it would be GREATLY apreciated.
Thanks alot for any help~Brian

Welcome to the list. There's lots of invaluable information here, and lots of great help. I know I wouldn't have been able to resurrect my Sevens without this sight. Good luck on the car. $500 is a steal, even if you have to do alot of work to it.

Yea... after I posted I found alot more info. And I guess for $500 my best bet would be to buy the car, then test everything and probably change all the fluids. Can you do a compression test with a regular compression tester you use for piston motors? I guess im getting a little ahead of myself though, I'm sure ill have a million questions when we get the car and dig in to it. Thanks for the newbie tolerance
