Thumbs up Newbie

Greetings

My name is Ross. I am a complete newbie at this forum and in the world of the rotary engine. I just purchased a 1987 RX-7 13B, and now I am lookin to heavily modify it. I am a trained mechanic and I have plenty of tools. Now I only need advice and direction. I am looking at doing alot with this car. I want to turbo it, I want to modify the suspension and drivetrain, and the interior will be as vacant as possible. I know that many of you here live and die by the ol' Wankle engines, but this is the first one I have worked on. Any links to site would be helpful. I want a new engine in it, being as this one has 200K on the clock, but I want it turbo'd and a lot of boost. Thanks for the help guys.

Ross

As you said above is the you want to turbo it. First you need to swap the whole engine tranny rearend to turbo. In my opinion i would put a 93 rx7 engine in it. You will get more power out of it. To make more power you do differnet type of proting. Read the FAQ it will guide to everything you need to know about rotary engine and rx7

no no no....welcome to the club. There are many threads and what not to search on and gather more info and the FAQ is great and has plenty of links to answer all of your questions. As for swapping the 93 plus motor its going to be a huge pain for what little difference you will get compared to swapping a 13b-re engine which is a bit different but engine mounts a very close to the same and much easier to mount. either way readf the FAQ and what not and gather info and welcome to the club.

wow.... talk about leading someone in the wrong direction!! a 13b-rew swap is the hardest among fc swaps, and one of the more expensive! he will get mostly the same results swapping a 13b-re for half the money, and half the hassle!! the easiest thing to do is just swap a s4 t2 motor, trans, rear-end, and d-shaft (yes, you can just put the motor in, but im talking about the smart way)... with a t2 motor, your good for about 250-350 hp if its modded!

if you read up in the site, youll find that the s5 t2(in case you dont know yet 86-88 rx7s are refered to as "s4", and 89-92 fc's are "s5") motor is definently a better starting platform, mainly due to the better turbo setup, but an s4 motor is easier to install on an s4 car. the s5 came w/ 200 hp stock and the s4 came with 182hp... both motors are great motors, and either will tickle your fancy!!

so, good luck on the project! oh, and you can turbocharge your na motor, although im not too knowledgable on that, you'll have to look it up in the FAQ!

Congrats to the purchase of the Rx7..... first i would say a good idea may be a atkinsrotary.com Rebuild tape...so u know how about to working on the internals of the engine and for power a nice bridge port would do the job

The first step is to read the FAQ. It contains all the information you could want about turbocharging the NA engine, or swapping in the TII engine.

The second step would be to use a much better subject line in your next post. Subjects like "newbie" or "I need help" quickly get buried.
