New to triangle motors...
so i found a 88 turboII for 2300. The car needs paint and supposivly the turbo leaks. I was just wondering if this is still a good buy or if i should just look for another car. im sorry but i am pretty close to clueless when it comes to rx7 and turbos. Ive always wanted a rx7 and i love this body style. Like i said, im new to rx7's so please be gentle...i kno im a total nub...but hey, evryone has to start sumwhere rite???
oh and jus to throw this out there...the motor has 69k origional miles and has had 2 owners.
Thanx guys
here is a pic of the car for kicks

anyways
take a video of the car, and rev it up. theres a good chance somebody on this site will be able to diagnose the problem pretty quick.
btw
KEEP IT
rx7s are amazing
you can make it faster than you could ever realistically flour it on the street.

Hate to say it, but I would recommend finding an unmolested Rx7. Judging by what i see in the picture I want to say its more than likely been driven really hard, profiling maybe but thats what I see. The upgrades it already has are mostly debilitating to the cars condition, exept maybe the braided lines. If its truly a TII then it has 4 piston fronts and theres no need for slotted rotors, they actually cause premature pad wear. And a stage 4 clutch seems overkill if you ask me.
Molested heavily, in need of therapy.

what's that red crap on it? A T2 with that level of mods may be a big headache for you if you don't have experience with the quirks of these models. It may have boost creap, a lean mixture, a hesitation... there are all sorts of common problems you could be chasing down if the previous owner didn't know what he's doing, which he probably didn't

correct me if im wrong but is boost creep is when you start off at set boost and it begins to increase from that point? If that is the case then cant i just get a
bigger wastegate, better wastegate placement, or get a less restrictive dump tube? Or maybe a combination of all those things??? If thats the case then thats not too much of a problem for me to do....
Oh and with the turbo leakin, can i jus buy another turbo? I kno it might not solve all the problems that the car MAY have...but could it be that easy of a fix?? Like i said...as soon as i can post some engine pics i will...

Buying a modified car is a bit of a crapshoot if you don't have any experience. You don't know how well the car was modified or what problems it may have.

Wiring Nightmare

Could be a pretty cool car definately looks like a sleeper with the **** paint and stock wheels and the FMIC.
but im gunna have to tend to agree with DavidHolmesIII, in that you would be better off finding an unmolested car to start with.
I know quite a bit about N/A cars but i bought an 88 RX-7 for $1900 and i am having tons of problems with it since the previous owner have tapped into most of the wiring for one electronic gadget or another and i dont think the turbo is hooked up right.
I guess stock is a good place to start
